Software Engineer

• Work with Systems Engineering to define solutions by developing requirements and a test strategy.
• Work as a key member of a project team to develop systems and deliver high-quality, robust software that meets customer requirements on time and within budget.
• Work with customer support functions to maintain software products deployed on land and at sea.
• Work with the software management function to develop skills, technology and ways of working.
• Design, implement and test human-computer interfaces, acoustic processing and middleware products using industry-standard tools and methods.

• A good foundation in computer science and proficient programming skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work as a key team member and take responsibility for professional development.
• Ideally, a degree in a relevant subject such as Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or Engineering.
• Desirable: experience with Java, C++ or C; awareness of software configuration control principles, real-time constraints, Linux and shell scripts, UML modelling, and software architectures.
• Ability to work well within a team, obtain cooperation and lead change; self-motivation, innovative problem-solving and enthusiasm to see solutions through to completion.
• Willingness to undertake business travel to Thales and non-Thales sites throughout the UK.
• This role requires UK nationality and the ability to achieve and maintain Security Clearance (SC) without caveats before starting employment. If approved by the MOD, a dual national from a non-ITAR country may be considered. Full SC eligibility generally requires five years UK residence, although three years residence within the last five years may be accepted in some circumstances, subject to additional overseas checks.

As a Software Engineer in Maritime Mission Systems, based at our Crawley site, you will help develop next-generation sonar technologies for UK and international navies, supporting projects including Astute class submarines, Merlin helicopters, Type 23 frigates and Hunt class mine countermeasures vessels. You will collaborate with our UK and overseas sites. This is a full-time role.
