Job description
As a Software Engineer within Optum Technology, you will design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and improve software applications and services in an Agile team environment. In this role, you will work on cloud infrastructure, distributed streaming architectures, and containerized deployments using Python, Golang, Kafka, Kubernetes, GCP, and Terraform. You will build and scale AI-powered solutions, platform automations, and modern APIs that drive core operational improvements and empower enterprise-scale healthcare applications. You’ll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. Primary Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and improve software applications and services in an Agile team environment
- Write clean, well-structured, maintainable, and efficient code adhering to software engineering best practices
- Participate in code reviews, design sessions, sprint planning, and retrospectives to ensure high-quality software delivery
- Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve application bugs, performance bottlenecks, and system issues
- Build and maintain continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines to automate application deployments
- Ensure application security, scalability, and adherence to enterprise security and engineering standards
- Design, develop, and deploy AI-powered solutions and platform automations to address complex business challenges with an emphasis on responsible AI practices
- Use enterprise-approved AI tools to streamline workflows, automate repetitive tasks, and drive continuous improvement
- Evaluate emerging technology trends to inform solution design and strategic innovation

Requirements
- 4+ years of professional experience in software engineering, developing software applications using Python or Golang
- 3+ years of experience with Kafka, Kubernetes (K8s), GCP (Google Cloud Platform), and Terraform
- 2+ years of experience with software design, development, and integration
- 2+ years of experience working in an Agile development environment (Scrum or Kanban)
- 2+ years of experience with version control systems (e.g., Git), * Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline
- Experience designing, developing, or deploying enterprise AI-powered solutions, machine learning integrations, or automated workflow engines
- Experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI)
- Experience building RESTful APIs and microservices architecture in enterprise environments

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you’ll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $72,800 to $130,000 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable. Pursuant to the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, we will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records., + $87,100-157,450 per year, + $107,900-195,050 per year
