Job description

Owen Library is the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown’s library. It is part of the University of Pittsburgh’s Library System. This position has three primary responsibilities: coordinating Information Desk activities, managing student assistants, and recording Owen Library statistics.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Work with the Pitt-Johnstown campus Facilities Department to maintain the library facility.
  • Assist library colleagues with projects.
  • Manage library displays.
  • Work with the University Library System Communications & Technology staff and the Pitt-Johnstown campus Information Technology staff to provide tech support for the library’s networks and equipment (including computers and printers).

This position coordinates the Owen Library Information Desk activities from 4:00 PM to 10:30 PM Monday through Thursday, and 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM on Sundays.

The work hours for this position are generally Sunday through Thursday, 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM. These are subject to change as department needs arise, with advance notice. There are occasional work hours on University holidays as required. The tasks and responsibilities for the ULS Nighttime Information Desk Coordinator must be performed on-site and in person; this position is not eligible for a flexible work arrangement or remote work., Assists personnel, answers inquiries, locates materials, and provides guidance related to library services. Researches and identifies resources to support informational needs. Maintains and updates online library systems and guides student employees. Essential Functions

This position’s essential functions include:

  • Working at the library’s Information Desk.
  • Working with Information Desk resources (including books and laptop computers).
  • Communicating effectively with work-study students.
  • Working with the University Library System IT Department and the Pitt-Johnstown IT department to resolve network ad equipment issues.
  • Working with the Pitt-Johnstown Facilities Department to resolve issues with the library facility.
  • Working with Owen Library’s statistics spreadsheets.

Working with Owen Library’s calendar databases. Physical Effort

This position is mostly sedentary. It does require the ability to move boxes of books and carry one ream of paper. The library has equipment and other team members available to help move heavy items.

Requirements

Minimum Education Level Required: Bachelor’s Degree

Minimum Years of Experience Required: 1

Will this position accept substitution in lieu of education or experience: Combination of education and relevant experience will be considered in lieu of education and/ or experience requirement.

Benefits & conditions

Work Schedule: The work hours for this position are generally Sunday through Thursday, 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM. These are subject to change as department needs arise, with advance notice. There are occasional work hours on University holidays as required.

Work Arrangement: On-Campus: Teams that work on campus, in an office, or in a lab.

Hiring Range: $16.50 to $20.63 per hour
