Job description

The Senior Software Engineer - Distributed Systems role is central to the development and scaling of the event-driven infrastructure that powers real-money trading on the prediction and trading platform. This position involves both hands-on engineering and architectural responsibilities to design systems capable of handling large traffic spikes and concurrency demands during live events. The role contributes directly to the platform’’s scalability and reliability, influencing technical direction and collaborating closely with leadership to align technology with business goals., * Design, build, and scale distributed systems using Kotlin, Java, and Spring Boot to support high traffic and concurrency.

  • Develop and optimize high-throughput event pipelines using Kafka, focusing on partition strategy and exactly-once processing.
  • Build and tune low-latency data layers with Postgres, Redis, and Redis PubSub, ensuring data integrity and sub-millisecond read performance.
  • Implement resilience patterns such as backpressure handling, circuit breaking, idempotent retries, and graceful degradation.
  • Contribute to real-time user-facing systems handling live market updates for tens of thousands of concurrent sessions.
  • Collaborate with product and engineering leadership to align technical execution with business priorities and platform strategy.
  • Establish and maintain engineering standards for observability, schema evolution, testing, and deployment.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, enhancing the team’’s technical capabilities.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience focused on distributed systems and high-concurrency production environments.
  • Expert proficiency in Java or Kotlin and Spring Boot, with strong knowledge of REST, gRPC, and Protobuf.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with Kafka or similar systems, including partitioning, consumer group management, and delivery guarantees.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve asynchronous messaging bottlenecks and implement idempotency and exactly-once processing.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform, and AWS cloud-native infrastructure.
  • Strong production reliability skills, including on-call experience and handling distributed system failures.
  • Proven influence on technical direction and ability to guide complex architectural decisions without direct authority.
  • Experience defining and enforcing success metrics such as SLAs, latency budgets, and throughput targets.
