Director of Enterprise Applications and Platform Services

The Director of Enterprise Applications and Platform Services provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the university’s enterprise application ecosystem supporting teaching, learning, research, and administrative operations. This role leads the ITS team responsible for the administration, configuration, integration, and continuous improvement of mission-critical platforms, including ERP, SIS, LMS, CRM, EHR, and related systems. Reporting to the VP/CIO, the Director serves as a key liaison between Information Technology Services (ITS) and campus partners, ensuring reliable, secure, and high-performing application platforms that deliver meaningful outcomes for students, faculty, and staff. This is an on-site position located on our Portland, Maine campus., * Lead strategy, governance, and roadmap development for the enterprise application portfolio

• Oversee application lifecycle management, including upgrades, patching, release management, and configuration
• Establish standards, documentation, and change control practices for platform administration
• Partner with institutional leaders to define priorities, success measures, and system value
• Serve as senior technical authority for mission-critical platforms
• Oversee system administration, security configuration, environment management, and performance optimization
• Ensure applications remain current, supported, and aligned with vendor and institutional standards
• Establish tiered support models and clear escalation processes
• Oversee enterprise application integrations and data exchange in coordination with IT and data teams
• Maintain application inventory, architecture documentation, and integration mappings
• Assess platform health, risk, and dependencies across the portfolio
• Promote architectural standards and scalable, sustainable integration practices
• Lead technical evaluation of new and existing systems, including architectural fit, integration complexity, and total cost of ownership
• Participate in procurement, RFP processes, and vendor selection
• Identify opportunities to enhance platform value, reduce risk, and optimize the application portfolio
• Lead or support system implementations, upgrades, migrations, and decommissioning efforts
• Oversee data migration, testing, and quality assurance processes
• Identify opportunities to consolidate or rationalize systems and reduce technical debt
• Drive continuous improvement in platform performance and user experience
• Ensure applications align with data governance, privacy, and regulatory requirements
• Partner with security and infrastructure teams to maintain strong application security and resilience
• Support business continuity and disaster recovery planning
• Manage vendor relationships and contracts for enterprise application platforms
• Monitor vendor performance, service levels, and alignment with institutional goals
• Conduct regular vendor reviews and support strategic sourcing decisions
• Lead, coach, and develop a multidisciplinary team of application administrators, analysts, and developers
• Serve as a liaison to academic and administrative units, supporting proactive planning and adoption
• Contribute to multi-year platform roadmaps aligned with institutional strategy
• Establish and track key performance indicators for platform reliability, performance, and user satisfaction
• Identify and implement improvements that enhance efficiency, reduce risk, and improve service delivery
• Perform other duties as assigned

• Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or related field
• 7-10 years of progressive experience in enterprise application or IT systems leadership
• Hands-on experience supporting enterprise platforms such as ERP, SIS, LMS, CRM, or EHR systems
• Experience with system integrations, application lifecycle management, and platform operations
• Knowledge of data governance, security, and regulatory requirements (e.g., FERPA, HIPAA)
• Experience managing vendors and enterprise software contracts
• Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills

Preferred

• Master’s degree in a related field
• Experience in higher education or similarly complex organizations
• Professional certifications (e.g., ITIL, PMP, Workday, Salesforce, Oracle, SAP)
• Experience maturing enterprise application management functions and governance frameworks
• Familiarity with integration platforms, APIs, and middleware technologies
• Experience with application portfolio management, system rationalization, or platform consolidation
• Experience with AI-enabled capabilities within enterprise platforms
