Cybersecurity Engineer

Georgia System Operations Corporation (GSOC) is seeking a Cybersecurity Engineer to lead the design, implementation, integration, and optimization of enterprise cybersecurity technologies and controls across cloud, endpoint, infrastructure, and business technology environments.

This senior technical role is primarily focused on Security Engineering, Cloud Security, and Security Architecture. The position evaluates and deploys security platforms, secures Azure environments, develops technical standards and architecture principles, advances Zero Trust capabilities, and helps ensure new technologies and projects meet security requirements.

The Cybersecurity Engineer also supports vulnerability management, security monitoring, threat detection, incident response, endpoint protection, compliance, and continuous security improvement, but the role is not positioned as a traditional SOC analyst position.

This opportunity is ideal for an experienced Security Engineer, Cloud Security Engineer, or Security Architect who combines hands-on technical depth, Microsoft Azure security expertise, systems thinking, automation, sound judgment, and the ability to guide technical teams and mentor cybersecurity analysts.

What You’ll Do

As a Cybersecurity Engineer, you will translate security requirements into practical, scalable controls and provide technical leadership for enterprise security platforms, cloud security capabilities, and architecture decisions.

You will:

• Design, implement, integrate, maintain, and optimize enterprise security technologies and controls.
• Lead deployment and technical improvement of security tools, platforms, secure configuration baselines, and hardening standards.
• Evaluate emerging security technologies, conduct technical assessments, and recommend solutions that align with business and regulatory requirements.
• Implement security automation using Python, PowerShell, Bash, APIs, or related tools to improve consistency, visibility, and operational efficiency.
• Implement and maintain security controls in Microsoft Azure environments and monitor cloud services for security risks, vulnerabilities, and misconfigurations.
• Support cloud governance, security architecture reviews, secure cloud design, and cloud monitoring and threat-detection capabilities.
• Review new technologies, applications, infrastructure changes, and projects for security requirements and architecture alignment.
• Develop and maintain enterprise security standards, technical patterns, architecture principles, and Zero Trust initiatives.
• Lead endpoint security administration and develop security standards for servers, workstations, mobile devices, and infrastructure platforms.
• Partner with Infrastructure, End User Computing, application, and business teams to strengthen controls, least-privilege practices, and secure technology delivery.
• Manage vulnerability scanning and assessment activities, prioritize remediation based on risk, coordinate corrective actions, and validate remediation results.
• Support SIEM, EDR, monitoring, detection, dashboards, threat-intelligence integrations, threat hunting, and incident-response activities.
• Develop incident-response playbooks, perform root-cause analysis, and drive technical corrective actions following security events.
• Support cybersecurity audits, assessments, policies, procedures, technical evidence, and alignment with NIST, CIS Controls, and applicable requirements.
• Serve as a senior technical resource, mentor cybersecurity analysts, lead security projects, and contribute to cybersecurity strategy and roadmap development.

• Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field. An equivalent combination of education, training, and directly related work experience may be considered.
• Ideally, 8+ years of cyber or information security experience.
• Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, integrating, and optimizing enterprise security technologies and controls.
• Experience securing Microsoft Azure environments and supporting cloud security architecture, governance, monitoring, and risk-reduction activities.
• Strong knowledge of security architecture, Zero Trust principles, secure configuration, infrastructure and endpoint security, vulnerability management, and technical standards.
• Experience with security monitoring and analysis technologies such as SIEM, EDR, IDS/IPS, threat intelligence, and vulnerability-scanning platforms.
• Proficiency in Python, PowerShell, Bash, or another scripting language for security automation or analysis.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, technical documentation, communication, leadership, and customer-service skills.
• Ability to explain complex technical risks and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders and work effectively with third-party security providers.
