Job description
Description: The Linux Administrator provides administration, security hardening, maintenance, and operational support for Linux-based systems within a Department of Defense (DoD) environment. The position is responsible for maintaining secure, reliable, and compliant Linux infrastructure while supporting day-to-day operations, vulnerability remediation, system patching, and DoD cybersecurity requirements Responsibilities:
· Install, configure, administer, and maintain Linux servers, including Red Hat, Ubuntu, and CentOS environments.
· Secure Linux systems in accordance with DoD cybersecurity requirements, security policies, and industry best practices.
· Apply, validate, and remediate applicable DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs).
· Perform operating system and security patching, system updates, and vulnerability remediation.
· Review vulnerability scan results, investigate findings, and implement corrective actions to maintain system compliance.
· Monitor system performance, availability, capacity, and security using appropriate monitoring and management tools.
· Troubleshoot and resolve operating system, application, configuration, performance, and connectivity issues.
· Manage user accounts, groups, permissions, privileged access, and access controls.
· Configure and maintain Linux-hosted services, including web servers, databases, file systems, and related infrastructure services.
· Implement and maintain backup, recovery, and disaster recovery capabilities.
· Automate routine system administration and maintenance activities using scripting languages such as Bash, Perl, and Python.
· Support application and infrastructure deployments and collaborate with DevOps, engineering, cybersecurity, and development teams.
· Maintain system documentation, configuration records, standard operating procedures, and technical documentation.
· Support configuration management, audit logging, security monitoring, and other controls required to maintain secure DoD computing environments.
· Ensure systems remain compliant with applicable DoD security policies, technical standards, and approved configuration baselines.
. Knowledge of and experience with installation, configuration, and integration, backups, troubleshooting, and problem resolution for servers associated with an Active Directory domain, such as DHCP and DNS
Requirements
· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
· Six (6) years of relevant professional experience administering and supporting Linux systems.
· Demonstrated experience securing and hardening Linux systems.
· Experience applying and validating DISA STIGs and remediating associated findings.
· Experience with Linux operating system patching, vulnerability remediation, and configuration management.
· Working knowledge of Linux system administration, access controls, system monitoring, backup/recovery, and troubleshooting.
· Experience with automation and scripting using Bash, Perl, and Python, or similar technologies.
