Engineering Controller

The Engineering Controller is responsible for coordinating and controlling engineering activities across the manufacturing site, ensuring that production equipment, machinery, utilities and site infrastructure operate safely, efficiently and reliably.

Working closely with Engineering, Production, Technical, Health & Safety and external contractors, the Engineering Controller will support the delivery of planned and reactive maintenance, minimise equipment downtime and ensure engineering standards are consistently maintained within a fast-paced food manufacturing environment., Engineering & Maintenance Control

• Coordinate daily engineering activities and prioritise maintenance requirements based on production needs and business priorities.
• Monitor and manage planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules to ensure tasks are completed on time.
• Coordinate reactive maintenance and ensure equipment breakdowns are responded to promptly.
• Monitor engineering response times, downtime and recurring equipment failures.
• Maintain accurate engineering records, maintenance logs and work orders.
• Identify recurring faults and work with the Engineering Team to implement effective corrective actions.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve equipment reliability, efficiency and performance.

Production Support

• Work closely with Production Managers and Team Leaders to coordinate engineering requirements around production schedules.
• Minimise production disruption by ensuring maintenance activities are effectively planned and communicated.
• Assist with the planning and coordination of engineering work during planned shutdowns and maintenance periods.

Food Manufacturing & Compliance

• Ensure engineering activities comply with food manufacturing, hygiene and food safety requirements.
• Follow site procedures relating to HACCP, food safety, allergen control, cleaning and hygiene.

Health & Safety

• Ensure all engineering work is carried out safely and in accordance with company procedures.
• Support the implementation of safe systems of work, risk assessments and permits to work.
• Monitor contractor activities and ensure contractors comply with site health and safety requirements.
• Report and investigate engineering-related safety incidents and near misses where required.

People & Contractor Management

• Coordinate engineering technicians and contractors to ensure effective use of resources.
• Allocate engineering tasks according to priority, skills and production requirements.
• Monitor contractor performance and ensure work is completed to the required standard.
• Support engineering meetings and daily communication.

Continuous Improvement

• Analyse engineering downtime and maintenance data to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Support projects designed to improve equipment reliability, efficiency and operational performance.
• Identify opportunities to reduce engineering costs, waste and unplanned downtime.
• Promote a proactive, preventative approach to engineering maintenance.

• Previous experience in an engineering, maintenance or engineering coordination role, preferably within food or FMCG manufacturing.
• Good understanding of manufacturing equipment and maintenance processes.
• Experience coordinating planned and reactive maintenance activities.
• Strong organisational and prioritisation skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment.
• Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements within an engineering environment.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively with Production, Engineering, Quality and other departments.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Good computer skills and experience using maintenance management systems.

Desirable Experience

• Experience within ice cream, dairy, food or FMCG manufacturing.
• Knowledge of refrigeration, freezing, filling, packaging or processing equipment.
• Experience with CMMS/engineering maintenance systems.
• Knowledge of HACCP and food safety requirements.
• Experience managing external engineering contractors.
• Engineering qualification or relevant technical qualification.
