Job description

  • Assist students to log on to computers.

  • Assist students with computer programs necessary to complete homework.

  • Assist staff with computer maintenance by notifying them of hardware and software issues.

  • Cleaning desktops, keyboards, mice, floors, whiteboards, etc. on a daily basis to maintain an orderly computer lab for students.

Specific Duties:

  • Monitoring labs for students needing assistance

  • Assisting students and staff with logging onto computers

  • Maintaining printers: Adding paper and changing cartridges as needed.

  • Assisting students with course work as needed.

  • Monitoring labs for food and drink.

  • Helping staff as needed, answering phones.

  • Preparing labs for regular classes and special events.

  • Various other duties assigned by tutors or Admins.

Requirements

  • Must be a currently enrolled RCC student in 6 credits or more and have a minimum GPA of 3.0.

  • Must have successfully completed CS120/CIS120 or BA131 or above.

Experience:

  1. Proficient with computers.

Knowledge of:

  1. A good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Windows.
  2. Some bookkeeping and knowledge of the Math software would be helpful.
  3. Experience with Graphics programs helpful.
  4. Additional knowledge of other applications used by students in the labs is a plus.

Ability to:

  • Work well with students to impart knowledge.

  • Willingness to learn and take direction.

  • Communicate with students who are at various levels of computer knowledge.

  • Ability to stay calm in occasionally stressful conditions.

  • Effectively communicate common academic uses of the computer.

  • Stay aware and be a calming influence on the students who use the labs.

  • Exercise excellent interpersonal skills, and an ability to work with diverse students.

  • Protect confidentiality of student information.

  • Pass a criminal background check.

Physical Demands of Position: Manual dexterity and coordination are required for more than half of the daily work period, which is spent sitting while operating office equipment such as computers, keyboards, telephones, and other standard office equipment. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach, bend, kneel, stoop, twist, crouch, climb, balance, see, talk, hear, and manipulate objects. The position requires some mobility including the ability to move materials less than 5 lbs. daily and 5-25 lbs. occasionally. This position requires both verbal and written communication abilities.

Working Conditions: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is primarily working indoors in an office environment. The employee is not exposed to hazardous conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and lighting is adequate.
