Job description

The Public Safety SQL Engineer is urgently needed to support critical life-safety databases powering NYC’s Next Generation 911 (NG911) call delivery for police, fire, and EMS. The role is responsible for configuring, maintaining, monitoring, and troubleshooting these databases 24/7 to ensure reliable 911 service availability. Filling this position is essential to the successful transition from the City’s legacy E911 system to NG911 and to reducing the risks associated with aging, end-of-life emergency response infrastructure.

Requirements

  • At least 12 years of experience as a Microsoft SQL Engineer/DBA, with advanced SQL expertise, including developing complex queries, stored procedures, and triggers, as well as optimizing database performance.
  • Strong database administration experience, including database creation and configuration, performance monitoring, backup and recovery, security administration, user access management, and database optimization.
  • Hands-on experience with high availability and disaster recovery solutions, including Always On Availability Groups, database mirroring, failover clustering, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex database issues, utilizing tools such as SQL Server Profiler, Dynamic Management Views (DMVs), and Extended Events.
  • Knowledge of MySQL, Oracle, MongoDB, VMWare, AD, DNS, * Microsoft SQL Engineer/DBA: 10 years (Preferred)
  • Advanced SQL querying & performance tuning: 10 years (Preferred)
  • Complex queries, SPs, and triggers: 10 years (Preferred)
  • Database creation, configuration & monitoring: 10 years (Preferred)
  • Backup, recovery, security & access control: 10 years (Preferred)
  • High availability & disaster recovery: 8 years (Preferred)
  • Always On, mirroring & failover clustering: 8 years (Preferred)
  • SQL troubleshooting with Profiler & DMVs: 8 years (Preferred)
