Enterprise Architect - WMS

We are recruiting a Lead Solution Architect to join a major global organisation and take a leading role in shaping the technology architecture behind complex, large-scale contract logistics and warehouse operations. This is a senior architecture position for someone who can bridge logistics operations, business strategy and technology, setting architectural direction across a broad application landscape.

You will work across areas including Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), transportation, warehouse automation, integrations, cloud platforms and wider logistics applications, helping define how these technologies fit together within a modern enterprise architecture. The Role You will act as a senior architectural authority across major logistics transformation programmes, working closely with business leaders, Enterprise Architecture, Solution Architects and technical teams. Responsibilities will include:

• Leading solution architecture across strategic Contract Logistics programmes
• Defining target-state architectures, technology roadmaps and transition plans
• Reviewing and governing technical and solution designs
• Shaping architecture across complex WMS and logistics application landscapes
• Governing integrations between legacy and modern platforms
• Driving application consolidation and simplification
• Ensuring solutions meet requirements around security, scalability, resilience, performance and cost
• Promoting API-first, cloud-first and loosely coupled architectures where appropriate
• Supporting technology and vendor evaluations
• Providing architectural guidance throughout major implementations
• Mentoring Solution Architects and senior technical professionals
• Working with senior business and IT stakeholders to translate operational requirements into scalable technology solutions, Experience with major WMS platforms such as Blue Yonder, SAP EWM or similar enterprise solutions would be particularly relevant. You do not need to be a hands-on warehouse automation specialist, but you should understand how warehouse technologies and automation fit together from an architectural perspective.

The Opportunity This is an opportunity to take genuine architectural ownership within a large-scale international logistics environment, influencing the technology landscape behind complex warehouse and supply-chain operations. Rather than simply designing individual solutions, you will help determine the broader architectural direction, challenge technical designs, simplify the application landscape and ensure major technology programmes are aligned with long-term business and IT strategy.

The key requirement is someone who combines strong architecture experience with a genuine understanding of logistics technology and operations. Ideally, you will have:

• Significant experience within IT architecture, including Solution, Lead, Domain or Enterprise Architecture
• At least 5+ years working in senior architecture positions
• Experience designing architecture for large and complex enterprise application landscapes
• Strong understanding of logistics, warehousing, supply chain or contract logistics
• Experience with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) from an architectural or large-scale implementation perspective
• Understanding of how WMS integrates with areas such as warehouse automation, TMS, ERP and other logistics applications
• Experience leading architecture for complex, global IT programmes
• Strong understanding of integration architecture and API-driven solutions
• Experience with cloud platforms and modernisation programmes
• Knowledge of architectural frameworks and modelling approaches such as TOGAF and ArchiMate
• Experience influencing architecture at programme, portfolio or enterprise level
