Job description

We are looking for an experienced Full Stack Ruby on Rails Developer to join a growing digital team responsible for developing and supporting a suite of in-house healthcare applications.

This is a senior, hands-on development position offering genuine end-to-end ownership of an established Ruby on Rails platform.

The organisation has developed its own suite of digital products supporting a rapidly growing healthcare service. As more technical ownership is brought in-house, you will play a key role in maintaining, improving and evolving the platform while helping shape the technical standards and architecture behind it.

The Role

As a Full Stack Ruby on Rails Developer, you will:

  • Take ownership of Ruby on Rails web applications from development through to deployment and ongoing support
  • Develop and maintain frontend functionality using JavaScript, Hotwire, Bootstrap and/or Tailwind CSS
  • Design, build and integrate REST APIs
  • Work with PostgreSQL databases
  • Manage and troubleshoot applications hosted across Heroku and AWS
  • Work collaboratively using Git and GitHub, including pull requests, code reviews and release management
  • Integrate with third-party services including payment, healthcare and communication platforms
  • Apply secure coding practices when working with sensitive healthcare data
  • Help bring externally managed elements of the platform progressively in-house
  • Contribute to technical architecture and future product development

Requirements

We are looking for someone with:

  • Strong commercial experience with Ruby on Rails
  • Experience working on production web applications
  • Full stack development experience
  • JavaScript experience
  • PostgreSQL
  • REST API development and integration
  • Git / GitHub
  • AWS and/or Heroku
  • Bootstrap and/or Tailwind CSS
  • Strong understanding of modern web development practices
  • Confidence taking ownership of applications with minimal supervision

Desirable Experience

Any of the following would be advantageous:

  • Hotwire, Turbo or Stimulus
  • Healthcare, NHS or regulated software environments
  • Authentication technologies including JWT, MFA, HMAC or role-based access control
  • Secure coding and application security
  • CI/CD pipelines
  • Automated testing
  • Production monitoring
  • Cyber Essentials Plus
  • UK GDPR
  • DCB0129 / DCB0160
  • Twilio
  • Google Cloud Platform
  • Microsoft Graph API
  • Kotlin or Swift
  • APIs supporting native mobile applications

The Opportunity

This role would suit an experienced Ruby developer who wants more than simply working through tickets within a large development team.

You will have significant ownership over an established product, work closely with senior stakeholders and have the opportunity to influence architecture, development practices and the future direction of the platform.

Benefits & conditions

The wider digital function is still growing, creating plenty of opportunity to have a visible impact on how technology is delivered.

Package

  • £60,000 - £65,000 salary depending on experience
  • Fully remote working anywhere within the UK
  • Option to work from the Lincoln office
  • Permanent, full-time position
  • High level of autonomy and technical ownership

Applicants must be based in the UK and have unrestricted right to work in the UK. Unfortunately, visa sponsorship cannot be provided for this position.

Pay: £60,000.00-£65,000.00 per year

Benefits:

  • Work from home
