Job description

As an Infrastructure Engineer, you will build, maintain and evolve the compute, storage and container platforms that power Hack The Box across data centers in the US, EU, Singapore and Australia. You’ll work at the intersection of bare-metal infrastructure, virtualization and cloud-native tooling - and play a key role in one of HTB’s most impactful infrastructure initiatives: the migration away from VMware toward an open-source virtualization and cloud platform.

Core mission: Operate and improve HTB’s virtualization and storage stack (VMware vSphere, Ceph, Kubernetes) while helping the team evaluate, plan and execute a migration to an open-source alternative, * Operate and maintain VMware vSphere clusters and NSX-based virtual networking across multiple data center sites

  • Administer and tune Ceph storage clusters, including NVMEoF-backed pools and RBD volumes
  • Deploy, upgrade and troubleshoot Kubernetes clusters running on bare-metal and virtualized infrastructure
  • Contribute to the evaluation and proof-of-concept work for migrating from VMware to an open-source platform.
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code (Ansible playbooks, Terraform modules) for repeatable, auditable deployments
  • Monitor infrastructure health and performance using Prometheus, Grafana and alerting pipelines; respond to incidents
  • Collaborate with the network engineering team on data center connectivity, VLAN/VRF provisioning and storage-network performance
  • Support hardware lifecycle operations: racking, provisioning, firmware updates and decommissioning across regions
  • Write and maintain technical documentation, runbooks and post-incident reviews
  • Participate in on-call rotation for infrastructure-related incidents, * You’ll have the exhilarating opportunity to contribute to a product that is highly appreciated by users and the cybersecurity community at large.
  • You’ll experience a highly supportive and caring environment, fostering growth, flexibility, and autonomy.
  • You’ll embark on an exciting journey of continuous learning and problem-solving, levelling up as our organisation grows.
  • Most importantly, you’ll have a blast at HTB because fun is an essential ingredient in our recipe for success! Just wait until you see our global meet-ups!

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of professional experience in infrastructure, systems or platform engineering
  • Hands-on experience with VMware vSphere administration (cluster management, resource pools, vMotion, HA/DRS)
  • Working knowledge of VMware NSX or similar software-defined networking
  • Experience administering Ceph storage (or comparable distributed storage systems)
  • Solid Kubernetes operations experience (deployment, upgrades, troubleshooting, cluster lifecycle)
  • Strong Linux systems administration skills (Debian)
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools (Ansible, Terraform)
  • Comfortable working with monitoring and observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana)
  • Good written communication skills for documentation and remote-first collaboration
  • Being cyber security-minded is a strong plus

Bonus Points:

  • Hands-on experience with OpenStack, CloudStack or similar
  • Experience with Ceph NVMEoF transport or RDMA-based storage networking
  • Understanding of Golang for writing internal automation or tooling
  • Familiarity with BGP, EVPN-VXLAN or data center networking concepts
  • Experience with bare-metal provisioning tools (Tinkerbell)
  • Previous work in a multi-region data center environment
