Job description

  • Design, build, test and deploy the automation pipeline: email intake and data extraction (Python), browser-based submission and document retrieval (Playwright), automated dispatch and audit logging.
  • Architect and build the customer-facing self-service portal: containerised multi-user hosting, customer sign-up/authentication, and request tracking.
  • Build a management dashboard for volumes, turnaround and exceptions.
  • Harden the platform for secure multi-client use, run an external customer pilot, and support commercial launch (pricing, SLAs, onboarding).
  • Create onboarding materials (videos, FAQs) and support processes; work daily with the company supervisor and academic partner.

Opportunity: This is a chance for a graduate to architect, develop, productise and expand a new software-based self-service product end-to-end, with the prospect of a permanent automation-focused role at the end of the project.

The successful graduate will lead this project, in a supportive partnership with Atlantic Technological University (ATU) as part of InterTradeIreland’s Innovation Boost Programme.

Interviews will be held approximately week commencing: 05/10/2026

Requirements

  • Min. 2.2 Degree in Computing/Software Engineering related subject.
  • Minimum 1 year (through study, placement or work) writing Python and using at least one other common language (e.g. C#, Java, JavaScript).
  • Practical experience of API integration (REST) and working with databases (SQL) and structured data (JSON/XML).
  • Must be legally entitled to work in NI/UK and travel throughout Ireland as required; if you do require a visa/work permit allowing you to work in Northern Ireland/UK you must upload a copy of it with your application. Failure to provide a relevant Visa/Work permit may result in your application not being considered.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience with browser/web-automation tools (e.g. Playwright, Selenium) or workflow-automation platforms (e.g. n8n, Power Automate).
  • Knowledge of data-handling libraries such as pandas, and/or email protocols (IMAP/SMTP) or API integration.
  • Experience with version control (e.g. Git/GitHub), databases (e.g. SQLite) or dashboard tools (e.g. Power BI, Metabase).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a methodical approach to testing and troubleshooting.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • Good communication skills.

About the company

This position is with Allied Group Ltd. The role forms part of an Innovation Boost project supported by InterTradeIreland. Salary support under the programme is provided for 18 months; however, the employment contract is with Allied Group Ltd and is not limited to the funding period.

Allied Group specialises in customs clearance, freight forwarding, and CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism) compliance, serving clients across the UK, Ireland, and Europe.

Founded in 2017 as Allied Fleet Services Ltd, the company evolved in response to customer needs - establishing Allied Customs Services after Brexit to support its growing client base, then adding freight forwarding in 2022 to offer a full end-to-end solution. It has since rebranded as Allied Group, bringing its services together under three dedicated divisions: Allied Customs (customs clearance), Allied Freight (freight forwarding and logistics), and Allied CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism support).

With over 50 years of combined experience, the team’s mission is to help businesses move goods across borders without the stress, delays, or uncertainty that often come with customs clearance - handling documentation, regulation changes, and deadlines so clients don’t have to. The company is guided by principles of client success, accountability, teamwork, and continuous learning. Its accreditations include Logistics UK, IOE&IT, RHA, and IACBAM, and it’s also a member of BIFA (British International Freight Association).
