Job description

We’re looking for a Senior Data Engineer to help shape and deliver data reporting solutions for large-scale capital projects. Based in the UK with a hybrid arrangement from Warrington, this is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on technical work, solving complex data challenges and influencing reporting strategies on major programmes. This role is suited to someone who can work directly with stakeholders to translate business needs into trusted data solutions, ensuring data lineage, governance and stability over time.

Location and Working Pattern

  • UK-based role
  • Hybrid: 3 days in Warrington office, 2 days remote
  • Occasional UK and Ireland travel for workshops and project mobilisation

Client Overview Our client delivers project controls and reporting support for major infrastructure and energy programmes. They focus on providing accurate insights for critical decision-making in complex environments.

Responsibilities

  • Derive reporting metrics by working backwards from the required decision to the source data
  • Extract and integrate data from multiple sources, including APIs, exports and structured manual inputs
  • Handle complex sources such as Excel, XML (including XER/P6), PDFs and scanned documents with careful validation
  • Develop and maintain a robust data model across raw, conformed and reporting layers
  • Build governance into every step, including reconciliation, lineage tracking and exception reporting
  • Design and operate the reporting and Azure data platform to production-level standards

Requirements

  • Proven track record in delivering reporting products from initial concept to go-live under tight deadlines
  • Experience with cost, schedule, risk, change and safety data within capital delivery projects (construction, infrastructure, energy, utilities, defence or nuclear)
  • Requirements-led data modelling, including dimensional modelling and layered warehouse design
  • Advanced SQL and Python skills
  • Professional-level experience using Azure Data Platform (Data Factory or Fabric, Synapse or SQL) and Power BI
  • Effective and credible in client-facing roles, including leading workshops and securing data access

Nice-to-have Skills

  • Knowledge of NEC3/NEC4 and its application in systems like CEMAR
  • Practical experience with Primavera P6, including XER/P6 XML parsing
  • Familiarity with Oracle Unifier, Aconex, ProjectWise, Asite or similar CDE platforms
  • Understanding of earned value forecasting and tools such as dbt or equivalent transformation-as-code frameworks
