Job description

  • Define and drive the technical vision, strategy, and roadmap for engine test systems, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Lead the development and implementation of engineering standards, processes, and best practices to ensure technical excellence and compliance.
  • Provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise on complex engine test challenges, guiding critical decisions and solutions.
  • Identify and leverage emerging technologies, tools, and methodologies to maintain a competitive advantage and drive innovation.
  • Oversee the delivery of departmental outputs, including schedules, reports, analysis, approvals, and technical recommendations.
  • Manage team priorities, resources, budgets, and performance to ensure successful delivery of engine test activities.
  • Collaborate with technical, project, and business leaders to align test engineering activities with strategic, customer, and project goals.
  • Ensure all engineering activities comply with relevant safety, regulatory, and quality standards.
  • Represent the engine test function in senior leadership, customer, supplier, and cross-functional discussions.
  • Mentor and develop engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and professional growth.
  • Build organisational capability by identifying skill gaps and driving targeted training and development initiatives.
  • Lead continuous improvement programmes focused on efficiency, reliability, sustainability, scalability, and quality management systems such as ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.

Requirements

  • Degree-qualified in Engineering, Science, or a related discipline, with significant experience in a senior engineering leadership role.
  • Extensive expertise in engine testing, engine controls, dynamometer systems, data analysis, and test facility management.
  • Proven experience delivering complex testing programmes for mechanical, electro-mechanical, and thermal systems.
  • Strong knowledge of test strategy, control systems, processes, procedures, and data analysis toolchains.
  • Solid understanding of relevant industry standards, regulatory requirements, and engineering best practices.
  • Demonstrated success in driving organisational change and aligning engineering activities with business objectives.
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage complex technical projects at a strategic level.
  • Strategic thinker with a practical, hands-on approach to solving technical and organisational challenges.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Outstanding communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Inspirational leader and mentor, committed to developing high-performing teams.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and deliver multiple concurrent projects.
