Job description

We are looking for a Mainframe Database Engineer to design, develop, maintain, and support enterprise database environments running on IBM mainframe systems. The role will focus on DB2 database administration, performance tuning, database availability, data integrity, backup and recovery, and supporting critical production applications.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have strong experience working with DB2 for z/OS and mainframe environments, along with knowledge of JCL, COBOL applications, SQL, and mainframe utilities. This role requires close collaboration with application developers, system programmers, infrastructure teams, and production support teams., * Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field

  • 8+ years of experience in Mainframe Database Engineering or DB2 Database Administration

\n

\n

  • Strong hands-on experience with IBM DB2 for z/OS

\n

\n

  • Strong knowledge of SQL and relational database concepts

\n

\n

  • Experience with DB2 database design, administration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting

\n

\n

  • Strong experience with DB2 utilities including REORG, RUNSTATS, LOAD, UNLOAD, COPY, and RECOVER, * Experience with database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery

  • Analyze and resolve production database incidents and performance issues

  • Work closely with COBOL and application development teams to support database-related application requirements

  • Develop and optimize SQL queries for performance and scalability

\n

\n

  • Manage DB2 utilities such as LOAD, UNLOAD, REORG, RUNSTATS, COPY, and RECOVER

\n

\n

  • Monitor database storage, space utilization, and capacity requirements

\n

\n

  • Participate in database upgrades, migrations, releases, and production deployments

\n

\n

  • Develop and maintain JCL for database administration and operational processes

\n

\n

  • Establish and maintain database security, access controls, and data integrity

\n

\n

  • Perform root cause analysis for database incidents and implement permanent solutions

\n

\n

  • Participate in disaster recovery exercises and business continuity activities

\n

\n

  • Document database standards, procedures, configurations, and operational processes

\n

\n

  • Mentor junior database engineers and provide technical guidance to development and support teams
