Job description

The organisation is developing next-generation assurance technologies designed to support the safe deployment of advanced autonomous systems within highly regulated and safety-critical environments. Working across complex embedded technologies, autonomous platforms, and mission-critical applications, the business is focused on solving some of the most challenging engineering problems around safety, reliability, assurance, and certification. This is an exciting opportunity to join an ambitious engineering environment where your work will contribute directly to the development of technologies designed to make autonomous systems safer, more reliable, and suitable for deployment within demanding regulated environments.

Your Role and Responsibilities: While in this position, your duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Design and develop safety-critical embedded software for autonomous and complex engineering systems.
  • Develop software components supporting runtime assurance, safety monitoring, and autonomous system safety.
  • Develop high-integrity software using Ada, SPARK Ada, and associated development toolchains.
  • Contribute to the definition and development of software architectures suitable for highly regulated and certifiable autonomous systems.
  • Work closely with software verification, systems, safety, and certification teams throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Develop software solutions capable of supporting high levels of safety assurance.
  • Contribute to the development of software suitable for demanding safety and certification requirements.
  • Support integration across mission computing, control systems, safety monitoring functions, and other embedded platforms.
  • Participate in software safety analysis and design assurance activities.
  • Contribute to requirements definition, software design, implementation, integration, and testing.
  • Support the development of robust fail-safe and safety-monitoring functionality.
  • Help identify and resolve technical risks associated with embedded and safety-critical software.
  • Work collaboratively with verification and validation engineers to ensure software meets defined safety and performance objectives.
  • Contribute to the continual improvement of software development processes, tools, and engineering practices.
  • Support the transition of software and assurance technologies from early-stage development into scalable operational deployments.
  • Contribute to the wider development of next-generation autonomous and safety-critical technologies.

Requirements

  • Strong background in embedded software engineering, ideally within safety-critical or highly regulated environments.
  • Experience developing software using C, C++, Ada, or similar programming languages.
  • Previous experience working within safety-critical engineering environments.
  • Strong understanding of high-integrity software development processes.
  • Experience developing software for real-time or embedded systems.
  • Familiarity with relevant safety standards and regulated software development environments.
  • Good understanding of software verification and validation methodologies.
  • Experience with Ada or SPARK Ada would be highly advantageous.
  • Experience developing software in accordance with DO-178C would be desirable.
  • Experience working within automotive safety standards such as ISO 26262 or IEC 61508 would be beneficial.
  • Background within aerospace, defence, autonomous systems, or another safety-critical industry would be advantageous.
  • Experience developing flight control systems or avionics software.
  • Experience working with UAV, UAS, drone, eVTOL, or other autonomous platforms.
  • Knowledge or experience of runtime assurance or autonomy assurance systems.
  • Familiarity with autopilot technologies such as ROS/ROS2, MAVLink, PX4, ArduPilot, or equivalent platforms.
  • Experience with model-based development, formal methods, or mathematically verifiable software would be beneficial.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work through complex software and safety challenges.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to software development.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with software, systems, verification, safety, and certification teams.
  • A genuine interest in autonomous systems, safety-critical software, and next-generation assurance technologies., You will have the opportunity to work on technically challenging projects where software safety, assurance, reliability, and certification are fundamental to successful deployment., * Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • C Programming (Using)
  • C++ Programming (C+E)
  • Communication Skills (Key)
  • Information Technology Education
  • Java Programming (Basics)
  • JavaScript & jQuery
  • Python Programming (Beginner)
  • Software Engineering Job Titles
