Job description

Joining a close-knit IT infrastructure team, you will take day-to-day responsibility for a well-established on-premises hosting centre. Your core focus will be keeping that environment running at peak performance, managing VMware vSphere virtualisation, Cisco firewalling and networking, Dell server and storage hardware, and Microsoft Server environments, while also contributing to ongoing projects and improvements.

You will be the go-to person in the data centre when the senior engineer is unavailable, so confidence and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure are important. You will also provide a degree of general IT support to the Nottingham office, so a helpful, can-do attitude towards end users is just as important as your technical credentials.

This isn’t a cloud-first role - it’s one for someone who understands that on-premises infrastructure still powers some of the most demanding client environments in the country, and who takes genuine pride in that.

Requirements

Do you have experience in vSphere?, Must-Have

  • Solid, hands-on VMware vSphere 7 (or later) experience, vCenter, ESXi, virtual networking, and storage.
  • Good working knowledge of Cisco firewalls (ASA and/or Firepower), configuration, VPN, and troubleshooting.
  • Practical experience with Dell PowerEdge servers, Dell storage, and Dell PowerSwitch networking.
  • Comfortable working in and around a data centre environment.
  • A methodical approach to incident resolution and solid documentation habits.

Great to Have

  • Citrix Storefront / NetScaler ADC experience.
  • Veeam backup and DR exposure.
  • Scripting skills (PowerShell, PowerCLI, Python).
  • VMware or Cisco certifications.
  • Microsoft Server 2022 / 2025 administration.

The Person

  • Around two to three years of infrastructure experience and looking for a role where you can genuinely grow and take ownership.
  • Not fazed by being asked to turn your hand to something slightly outside your comfort zone.
  • Knows when to ask for help, this team values honesty over bravado.
  • Happy to be based on-site the majority of the time (flexible working available).
  • Comfortable with occasional travel to Ireland and, rarely, Germany.

Benefits & conditions

Nottingham Permanent Up to £45,000

Are you a hands-on infrastructure engineer who still gets a buzz from working with real tin? Do you enjoy having genuine ownership of a hosted environment rather than being a small cog in a vast cloud factory? If so, this could be exactly the right move for you., * A salary of up to £45,000 depending on experience.

  • A stable, well-respected employer with genuine international backing.
  • Real ownership and variety, no two days are the same.
  • A supportive team environment with a genuine commitment to your development.
  • Flexible working where the role allows.

Pay: £40,000.00-£45,000.00 per year
