Job description

The Loading Bay Engineer will be responsible for the installation, servicing, diagnostics, and repair of loading bay equipment. You will carry out both planned and reactive work across a variety of customer sites, ensuring minimal downtime and excellent service quality.

This role requires a combination of electrical fault-finding skills, mechanical aptitude, and hands-on installation experience. The ideal candidate will have a background in industrial or commercial engineering and be familiar with equipment such as dock levellers, sectional doors, scissor lifts, vehicle locks, control systems, and hydraulics., Installation & Commissioning:

  • Install and commission dock levellers, dock shelters, industrial doors, scissor lifts, and safety equipment
  • Wire control panels and connect electrical systems in accordance with technical drawings and standards
  • Program basic control logic where required (PLC experience advantageous)

Servicing & Maintenance:

  • Conduct scheduled PPM (planned preventative maintenance) on loading bay and industrial access equipment
  • Perform full system checks on hydraulics, pneumatics, electrics, and mechanical components
  • Record and report all service work completed, including parts used and future recommendations

Diagnostics & Repairs:

  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical faults in control systems, motors, safety devices, and sensors
  • Diagnose hydraulic and mechanical faults, including cylinder issues, leaks, or misalignments
  • Advise customers on system upgrades or replacements when appropriate

Health & Safety & Compliance:

  • Work in line with Health and Safety legislation and risk assessments on site
  • Ensure all work is completed to relevant British Standards and company quality procedures
  • Keep up to date with product-specific training, electrical regulations, and compliance protocols

Requirements

  • Previous experience working as a field technician
  • Strong electrical background
  • Competent in fault-finding and repairing 3-phase systems, relays, control panels, and safety circuits
  • Competent in hydraulics and mechanical systems
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and complete paperwork accurately

Desirable:

  • Experience working with dock levellers, dock shelters, scissor lifts, or industrial doors
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671)
  • IPAF, PASMA, or CSCS certification
  • Knowledge of PLCs or motor control systems
  • Welding or fabrication skills
