In this role, you’re responsible for the duties listed below., FULL DESCRIPTION: We are seeking a Temp GIS Technician to support GIS data management, mapping, geodatabase maintenance, spatial data interpretation, field data collection, and technical GIS assignments for a municipal environment. This temporary, onsite assignment is expected to last 3 to 6 months with possible extension. The role is responsible for creating, editing, and maintaining GIS geodatabases, layers, maps, and analytical products, collecting and integrating spatial data, interpreting engineering drawings and maps, operating GIS-related equipment, and completing GIS assignments with accuracy and attention to detail. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree or related GIS coursework, technical GIS experience, Esri software knowledge, strong mapping and data skills, and the ability to communicate clearly with staff, agencies, and the public.

The selected candidate will be responsible for:

  • Creating, editing, and maintaining accurate GIS geodatabases
  • Maintaining GIS layers, maps, and analytical products
  • Collecting, interpreting, and integrating spatial data from multiple sources
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, survey notes, legal descriptions, and record maps
  • Operating GIS-related hardware and standard office equipment
  • Performing GIS assignments independently with accuracy, initiative, and attention to detail
  • Using Esri software products, including ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online
  • Supporting GIS data conversion, editing, digitizing, and quality control activities
  • Maintaining land base information such as parcels, rights-of-way, easements, and municipal boundaries
  • Applying GIS, cartography, and spatial data analysis methods to assigned work
  • Using geodatabase design, relational database concepts, and SQL knowledge as needed
  • Supporting GPS survey concepts and field data collection methods as needed
  • Using mathematics related to mapping, including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry
  • Communicating clearly and professionally with City staff, external agencies, and the public
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external contacts
  • Supporting the Information Technology Department with GIS-related assignments
  • Driving as required for assigned work
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Computer Science, or a closely related field
  • 1+ year of technical experience working with GIS software, spatial data, and mapping applications
  • Experience with Esri software products, including ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online
  • Knowledge of geodatabase design, spatial data analysis, data editing, digitizing, and quality control
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, survey notes, legal descriptions, and record maps
  • Ability to support a temporary 3 to 6 month assignment with possible extension, * Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Computer Science, or a closely related field required
  • 1+ year of technical experience working with GIS software, spatial data, and mapping applications required
  • GIS certificate or relevant GIS coursework may substitute for up to one year of required experience
  • Previous experience working for a government agency, municipality, or school district preferred
  • Knowledge of GIS principles, practices, methods, and terminology required
  • Knowledge of cartography and spatial data analysis required
  • Experience with Esri software products required
  • ArcGIS Pro experience required
  • ArcGIS Online experience required
  • Knowledge of geodatabase design required
  • Knowledge of relational database concepts and SQL preferred
  • Experience with GIS data conversion, editing, digitizing, and quality control techniques required
  • Knowledge of GPS survey concepts and field data collection methods preferred
  • Knowledge of land base information, including parcels, rights-of-way, easements, and municipal boundaries preferred
  • Basic scripting or automation knowledge, such as Python, desirable
  • Ability to create, edit, and maintain accurate GIS geodatabases, layers, maps, and analytical products required
  • Ability to collect, interpret, and integrate spatial data from multiple sources required
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, survey notes, legal descriptions, and record maps required
  • Ability to perform GIS assignments independently required
  • Strong attention to detail required
  • Strong accuracy and initiative required
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills required
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships required
  • Ability to work onsite in Perris, CA
  • Ability to work Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
  • Ability to drive as required
  • Ability to support a temporary 3 to 6 month assignment with possible extension

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods while using GIS software, reviewing maps, maintaining geodatabases, entering data, and completing technical assignments
  • Ability to use hands and fingers for typing, data entry, mapping, digitizing, editing GIS layers, documentation, and standard office tasks
  • Ability to review GIS data, maps, engineering drawings, survey notes, legal descriptions, record maps, reports, spreadsheets, and computer screens for extended periods
  • Ability to communicate by phone, email, video meeting, and in person throughout the workday
  • Ability to occasionally stand, walk, bend, reach, and move throughout office, municipal, or field environments as needed
  • Ability to operate GIS-related hardware, GPS equipment, and standard office equipment as needed
  • Ability to drive as required for assigned GIS or field-related work
  • Ability to occasionally lift, carry, or move standard office files, maps, documents, supplies, or small equipment as needed
  • Ability to maintain accuracy, professionalism, and attention to detail while supporting GIS data, mapping, and municipal assignments

Salary Range: $34/hour
