Job description
To develop, maintain and improve the company’s websites and web applications across both the frontend and backend. The role is responsible for ensuring systems are secure, reliable, efficient and scalable, while working collaboratively with developers and other departments to deliver high-quality technical solutions., · PHP development: Develop and maintain server-side web application logic, writing clean, secure, well-documented and testable PHP code in line with agreed coding standards.
· Frontend development: Create and maintain responsive webpages and user-facing functionality using HTML, CSS and JavaScript, working from agreed designs and requirements.
· Database management: Develop and maintain efficient database structures, optimise queries and protect the accuracy and integrity of data.
· API development and integration: Design, develop and maintain RESTful APIs and integrations with internal systems and approved third-party services.
· Performance optimisation: Identify and resolve performance issues to improve the speed, stability, scalability and responsiveness of websites and applications.
· Security and data protection: Follow secure development practices and protect systems against common web vulnerabilities, including SQL injection and cross-site scripting. Handle personal data appropriately in line with UK data-protection requirements and company policies.
· Testing and quality: Test new developments and system changes before release, participate in code reviews and help maintain consistent coding standards.
· Troubleshooting and support: Investigate, diagnose and resolve technical issues identified by users, monitoring systems or testing.
· Collaboration: Work closely with developers, designers, project stakeholders and third-party suppliers to support the successful delivery of projects.
· Technical documentation: Create and maintain clear documentation for applications, APIs, integrations, databases and development processes.
· Employee support and training: Provide guidance or training to colleagues where necessary on software and functionality developed by the IT team.
· Continuous improvement: Keep up to date with relevant PHP frameworks, development tools, security standards and industry trends, recommending improvements where appropriate.
· Employee Training: Where necessary provide assistance to colleagues in using the software you have created.
Requirements
· Strong knowledge of PHP and object-oriented programming.
· Working knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
· Experience working with relational databases such as MySQL.
· Experience developing and integrating APIs.
· Understanding of responsive web design and browser compatibility.
· Knowledge of secure coding and common web-security risks.
· Experience using version-control systems such as Git.
· Strong problem-solving, communication and teamwork skills.
· Ability to manage priorities and deliver work within agreed timescales.
Desirable
· Experience working within an e-commerce environment.
· Experience with payment, order-management or third-party platform integrations.
· Knowledge of automated testing and deployment processes.
· Experience with cloud-hosting environments, application monitoring or performance optimisation.
· Awareness of web accessibility standards and user-experience principles.
