Job description

We are seeking a hands-on Test Engineer to support vehicle systems testing, integration and validation activities across Bentley vehicle programmes.

The role will support the development and maintenance of test vehicles, test rigs and associated environments across Telematics, Connectivity, Infotainment and Diagnostics.

This is a practical automotive engineering role requiring someone who is comfortable working directly on vehicles, vehicle components and test benches, as well as analysing software, system behaviour and diagnostic information.

The successful candidate will support system integration, test planning, fault investigation and validation activities, working closely with cross-functional engineering teams and suppliers to ensure systems and components achieve the required quality and maturity targets., * Support the construction, configuration and ongoing maintenance of vehicle and rig-based test environments.

  • Work directly with vehicles, electronic components, ECUs and associated test equipment.
  • Support testing across Telematics, Connectivity, Infotainment and Diagnostic systems.
  • Capture, review and define system integration and test requirements.
  • Develop appropriate test approaches based on system and programme requirements.
  • Support the planning and execution of component, system and vehicle-level validation activities.
  • Ensure test vehicles, rigs and associated environments are maintained in the correct configuration.
  • Investigate system integration issues and complex vehicle faults.
  • Analyse vehicle logs, diagnostic information and test data to support root-cause investigation.
  • Work with engineering teams and suppliers to identify and implement effective solutions.
  • Support vehicle software, configuration and diagnostic activities throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Maintain accurate records of vehicle, software and test-environment configurations.
  • Plan and manage project-related activities on a weekly basis.
  • Provide clear reporting of test status, issues, risks and progress.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to support programme delivery.
  • Support the development and maintenance of automated test activities using Python, Robot Framework and Anna Framework where applicable.
  • Maintain appropriate technical documentation relating to test environments, configurations and test activities.

Requirements

  • Practical, hands-on automotive experience within an OEM, vehicle engineering, prototype, test or dealership environment.
  • Experience working directly on vehicles and vehicle electrical/electronic systems.
  • Understanding of vehicle diagnostics and fault-finding techniques.
  • Familiarity with vehicle software and software-related testing activities.
  • Experience working with test rigs, test benches or component-level test environments.
  • Understanding of vehicle system integration and validation processes.
  • Familiarity with the vehicle development and software lifecycle.
  • Ability to investigate vehicle or system issues using diagnostic information, logs and engineering data.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical capability.
  • Ability to work effectively with engineering teams, suppliers and other technical stakeholders.
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to plan and manage ongoing test activities.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable Experience

  • Previous Bentley or Volkswagen Group experience.
  • Experience within Telematics, Connectivity, Infotainment or Diagnostics.
  • Experience with prototype or pre-production vehicles.
  • Knowledge of ECU software flashing, coding or configuration.
  • Experience analysing vehicle communication or diagnostic logs.
  • Exposure to automotive communication networks and associated test tools.
  • Python programming or scripting experience.
  • Robot Framework experience.
  • Anna Framework experience.
  • Experience developing or maintaining automated test solutions.
