Job description

FMI is seeking a Cloud Services Lead / Senior Cloud Architect to provide senior-level technical leadership for a federal enterprise cloud services environment. The Cloud Services Lead will serve as the principal technical lead for cloud operations and engineering, providing overall technical direction, architecture, integration, modernization, and operational oversight across Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, identity services, cloud security, and supporting enterprise technologies., The successful candidate will be a hands-on senior cloud engineer and architect capable of leading complex technical activities while working directly with Government technical personnel, engineering teams, administrators, cybersecurity personnel, and other service providers. The individual will lead resolution of complex cloud incidents and engineering challenges, establish technical standards, evaluate proposed changes, and ensure cloud services remain secure, reliable, scalable, and aligned with Government requirements., The Cloud Services Lead / Senior Cloud Architect will:

  • Serve as the technical lead for Cloud Services, providing day-to-day technical direction and coordination across the cloud engineering team.
  • Lead architecture, engineering, administration, integration, and optimization of Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 services.
  • Develop and maintain cloud architecture, technical standards, engineering approaches, configuration baselines, and implementation strategies.
  • Provide senior technical leadership for Microsoft Entra ID/identity and access management, authentication, authorization, privileged access, and integration of cloud and enterprise services.
  • Lead complex cloud infrastructure engineering, including compute, storage, networking, platform services, application/service integration, and hybrid-cloud connectivity.
  • Provide technical direction for Microsoft 365 services and their integration with the broader enterprise environment.
  • Evaluate existing cloud environments and recommend improvements addressing availability, performance, security, scalability, automation, resiliency, and cost effectiveness.
  • Lead technical planning and execution for cloud migrations, upgrades, modernization initiatives, service enhancements, and configuration changes.
  • Serve as the senior escalation point for complex Tier 3 cloud incidents, service degradations, configuration problems, and engineering issues.
  • Perform root-cause analysis and coordinate resolution of complex problems involving multiple systems, vendors, or technical teams.
  • Coordinate cloud technical activities with Government technical leads, cybersecurity personnel, network/infrastructure teams, application teams, service desk personnel, and third-party providers.
  • Support cloud security engineering, vulnerability remediation, configuration compliance, patching, monitoring, and implementation of Government security requirements.
  • Promote automation and repeatable engineering through scripting, configuration management, infrastructure automation, and other appropriate engineering practices.
  • Review proposed technical changes for architectural compatibility, security, operational impact, dependencies, and implementation risk.
  • Support capacity planning, performance management, availability management, disaster recovery, continuity, and service resiliency activities.
  • Establish and maintain cloud engineering documentation, architecture diagrams, implementation procedures, configuration records, operating procedures, and knowledge articles.
  • Provide technical mentoring and guidance to cloud engineers and administrators.
  • Participate in technical reviews, change management activities, incident/problem reviews, planning sessions, and Government technical meetings.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, modernization, standardization, and operational efficiency across the Cloud Services environment.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active Secret clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline.
  • Additional relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree if permitted by the contract labor category requirements., * 10+ years of progressive IT infrastructure/systems engineering experience, including significant experience supporting enterprise production environments.
  • 5+ years of hands-on Microsoft cloud engineering experience involving Azure and/or Microsoft 365.
  • Demonstrated experience serving as a senior engineer, technical lead, cloud architect, or equivalent technical authority.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, engineering, implementing, operating, and troubleshooting enterprise cloud solutions.
  • Experience supporting complex Federal Government or similarly regulated enterprise environments strongly preferred.
  • Experience leading complex technical troubleshooting and serving as a senior escalation resource.
  • Experience coordinating technical activities across infrastructure, networking, cybersecurity, identity, application, and operations teams.

Required Technical Experience

Candidates should demonstrate strong experience across several of the following areas, with particularly deep expertise in Microsoft cloud technologies:

  • Microsoft Cloud: Azure, Microsoft 365, Entra ID/Azure AD, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, and related enterprise services.
  • Cloud Infrastructure: Azure compute, storage, networking, resource management, monitoring, backup/recovery, high availability, and hybrid-cloud integration.
  • Identity & Security: Entra ID, MFA, Conditional Access, RBAC, privileged access, identity governance, Microsoft Defender technologies, security monitoring, and Zero Trust principles.
  • Operations & Engineering: enterprise monitoring, incident/problem management, configuration management, patching, vulnerability remediation, capacity/performance management, root-cause analysis, disaster recovery, and change management.
  • Automation: PowerShell and/or other scripting/automation technologies used to administer, configure, monitor, and automate enterprise cloud environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Microsoft Azure and/or Microsoft 365 advanced certifications.
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert.
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate.
  • Microsoft Certified: Identity and Access Administrator Associate.
  • Microsoft Certified: Cybersecurity Architect Expert or Security Operations Analyst Associate.
  • Experience with Azure Monitor, Microsoft Sentinel, Microsoft Defender, Intune, PowerShell, and Microsoft Graph.
  • Experience supporting hybrid environments integrating Microsoft cloud services with on-premises infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with AWS or other cloud platforms where integration with Azure/Microsoft services is required.
  • Experience working within ITIL-based service management environments.
  • Experience with Federal cybersecurity requirements, NIST controls, Zero Trust, configuration management, and vulnerability remediation., * Systems engineering: 5 years (Preferred)

  • Microsoft 365: 5 years (Required)
