Job description

We’re looking for a mid-senior full stack developer to join us permanently and remotely. This is a hands-on role with real variety - you’ll work across front-end, back-end, and integrations, often within the same week.

You’ll be client-facing from day one, contributing to technical conversations, scoping discussions, and occasionally leading them. You’ll be trusted to manage your own workload with minimal oversight. That means knowing when to ask and when to just get on with it.

What You’ll Work On

  • Front-end development: HTML, SCSS, JavaScript - building and customising storefronts
  • Back-end development: Node.js middleware and integration services running on GCP
  • API integrations - connecting platforms, ERPs, and third-party services
  • Technical client communication - scoping, clarifying requirements, and managing expectations directly
  • E-commerce implementations across varying scales and complexity

We work heavily in the BigCommerce ecosystem, but platform experience matters less than the ability to hit the ground running in an unfamiliar stack.

Requirements

Do you have experience in SCSS?, Essential

  • Solid full stack development experience (Node.js back-end, modern JS/HTML/SCSS front-end)
  • Comfortable picking up unfamiliar platforms, codebases, and tooling quickly - no fear of the unknown
  • Strong communicator - able to hold your own in a client call without hand-holding
  • Self-directed and delivery-focused; you don’t need to be told twice
  • Pragmatic attitude to problem-solving - done well beats perfect and late

Strong Advantage

  • Experience working in or with e-commerce platforms (any - BigCommerce, Shopify, Magento, etc.)
  • Cloud platform experience - GCP, AWS, or Vercel; we run on GCP but the underlying concepts transfer and we care more about comfort in cloud-deployed environments than which logo is on your CV
  • Hands-on experience with AI coding tools (Copilot, Cursor, or similar) as part of your day-to-day workflow
  • Any involvement in defining or building AI-assisted development processes - prompt frameworks, agentic workflows, internal tooling

Bonus

  • Strong front-end focus with solid CSS and React experience
  • Familiarity with ERP or middleware integrations, * Development: 2 years (required)

Benefits & conditions

  • Fully remote, permanent role
  • Small team - you’ll have real ownership and visibility on everything you touch
  • Client-facing from the start - we don’t have account managers buffering every conversation
  • AI tooling is part of our workflow, not an afterthought - we expect you to use it, improve it, and push it forward
  • Minimal management overhead - autonomy is a feature, not a perk, Competitive and based on experience. We’d rather find the right person and have a conversation than lose them to a number on a page.

Pay: £45,000.00-£55,000.00 per year

About the company

Agency51 is a specialist digital agency focused on e-commerce. We build, integrate, and scale complex commerce solutions for ambitious clients - and we do it with a small, highly capable team. We’re not a factory. We’re a team that cares about doing things properly.

We’re also genuinely forward-looking. We embrace AI tooling as a core part of how we work - not as a talking point, but as a practical driver of quality and efficiency. If you’re already working that way, you’ll fit right in.
