Job description

Robert Half is seeking an Embedded Firmware Engineer to support the development and bring-up of hardware systems involving USB Type-C and Power Delivery (PD) controllers for a government company based in Bellevue, WA. Apply today!, * Bring up hardware systems, each of which includes a Power Delivery (PD) controller.

  • Develop and maintain embedded and bare-metal firmware for PD controllers.
  • Develop firmware in C for microcontroller-based systems.
  • Work directly with hardware during system bring-up and troubleshooting.
  • Use debugging equipment such as multimeters and oscilloscopes to troubleshoot hardware and firmware issues.
  • Review and interpret electrical schematics to understand how PD controller pins are mapped and how the hardware, software, and data interact.
  • Work with hardware communication buses, including I2C, SPI, and other low-speed buses.
  • Work with Cypress and Infineon microcontrollers and the associated IDE used to develop and run C code.
  • Support USB Type-C and Power Delivery functionality, including understanding the process involved in USB power negotiation.
  • Collaborate with team members and communicate effectively with Electrical Engineers regarding design and troubleshooting.

Requirements

  • Experience developing embedded and bare-metal firmware.
  • Strong C programming experience.
  • Hands-on experience debugging hardware using tools such as a multimeter and oscilloscope.
  • Experience working directly with hardware and PD controllers during system bring-up.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and use them to inform firmware development.
  • Experience working with hardware communication buses such as I2C, SPI, and low-speed buses.
  • Experience with Cypress and/or Infineon MCUs and the associated development IDE.
  • Basic understanding of USB Type-C and Power Delivery (PD), including USB power negotiation.
  • Ability to work independently with limited day-to-day direction.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • Experience with USB Power Delivery (PD) compliance.
