Job description

Public Affairs & Access (PAA) is a multi-disciplinary organization that includes Corporate Communications; Policy, Evidence & Access Strategy; Channel & Contract Management; External Affairs; Patient Experience; and Strategy and Business Operations. Our purpose is to deliver impact through a fully integrated public affairs function that leverages our capabilities and world-class Genentech brand to deliver on our mission for patients and our employees.

Patient Strategy aims to create a holistic, cross-functional approach to deliver a best-in-class patient experience that aligns with the portfolio, technology tools, and consumer-driven patient expectations in a rapidly evolving business landscape.

The Opportunity

As a Patient Experience (PX) Business Designer, you will evaluate the commercial viability and financial scalability of patient experience concepts designed across our portfolio. In doing so, you will bridge the gap between creative design and business execution to maximize patient impact by transforming complex healthcare navigation into frictionless, patient-first solutions that ensure every innovation translates into tangible value for those we serve.

  • Apply strategic frameworks to assess opportunity spaces and potential patient experience concepts, providing a clear business lens to support patient opportunity prioritization.
  • Define patient outcome metrics (e.g., time to therapy, persistence, patient-reported experience) alongside commercial KPIs to prioritize concepts with the greatest patient benefit.
  • Translate patient experience concepts into rigorous commercial and financial models to evaluate cost structures, revenue potential, KPIs, and long-term viability.
  • Identify and articulate both financial and non-financial value drivers (e.g., adherence, brand differentiation, ecosystem positioning) to guide design trade-off decisions.
  • Quantify risks and sensitivity scenarios using discovery-driven planning to build phased investment models for future-state patient solutions.
  • Inform the business architecture underpinning patient programs, including vendor strategy, funding models, and value realization tracking.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Finance, Data, Digital, & Analytics, RDT, Activation & Capabilities Enablement, Experience Design teams to provide budget inputs and recommendations on scale, pivot, or sunset calls.

Requirements

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, public health, or a related discipline.
  • Bring 4-7 years of professional experience, preferably in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, life sciences, or healthcare setting.
  • Demonstrate strong financial modeling, value case development, and scenario/risk analysis capabilities.
  • Possess strong presentation and executive communication skills with an ability to translate technical data into strategic insights.
  • Show proven ability to connect patient outcomes and experience metrics directly to enterprise value and KPI frameworks.

Preferred Experience

  • Advanced degree in business or quantitative field (i.e. MBA, MPH)
  • Experience applying human-centered design principles or working alongside experienced design/innovation teams.
  • Familiarity with healthcare access pathways, reimbursement models, and digital health technology trends.
