Job description
Downtown LA Law Group is seeking a highly analytical and resourceful Class Action Researcher to identify, investigate, and evaluate potential class action and mass-action litigation opportunities.
This position is ideal for someone who is exceptionally good at finding information others miss. We are looking for a researcher who can take an emerging issue, product, company, government action, consumer complaint, or developing trend and determine whether there may be a significant legal opportunity behind it.
What You’ll Do
You will continuously research and identify potential class action matters involving areas such as:
Consumer protection and deceptive business practices Defective products and product recalls Data breaches and privacy violations Employment and wage-and-hour practices Financial products, fees, and consumer charges False advertising and misrepresentation Environmental or toxic exposure matters Emerging mass torts and other large-scale litigation
Your research may include reviewing court filings, regulatory actions, government databases, recalls, consumer complaints, news reports, corporate disclosures, scientific literature, social media, and other public sources.
You will be expected to go beyond simply identifying a problem. For promising matters, you will prepare concise research reports addressing, The ideal researcher will eventually become a critical part of the firm’s case-development strategy and regularly present attorneys with well-supported opportunities for new class action and mass-action litigation.
Requirements
The strongest candidate will be naturally curious, skeptical, persistent, and extremely comfortable conducting deep research.
You should be able to start with very little information and independently uncover the underlying facts.
Strong candidates may come from backgrounds including legal research, investigative journalism, intelligence or investigative research, class action litigation, mass torts, regulatory research, financial research, or sophisticated online/open-source research., Exceptional online and investigative research skills Strong analytical and critical-thinking ability Excellent written communication Ability to distinguish meaningful evidence from noise Comfortable researching unfamiliar industries and technical subjects Strong attention to detail and source verification Ability to organize large amounts of information into clear conclusions Familiarity with legal research tools, court records, PACER, regulatory databases, or class action litigation is strongly preferred Experience using AI-assisted research tools is a plus
