Job description
We are looking for an experienced Senior Network Engineer (Tier 3) to join our growing Information Technology team. This is a senior-level engineering position responsible for complex network design, architecture, implementation, troubleshooting, and technical leadership., The Senior Network Engineer (Tier 3) serves as the highest level of technical escalation for network-related issues and provides advanced engineering and architecture expertise across enterprise and multi-site environments.
This role is responsible for designing, implementing, optimizing, and maintaining complex network infrastructure while working closely with customers, internal teams, vendors, and technical stakeholders.
The Senior Network Engineer will exercise significant independent judgment in areas including network architecture, routing and switching, security, capacity planning, cloud connectivity, wireless, WAN/SD-WAN, and systems integration.
This position is an individual contributor role with significant technical ownership and is not a traditional help-desk or ticket-based support position., * Design, architect, implement, test, and troubleshoot complex enterprise and multi-site network infrastructure.
- Consult with customers, users, architects, vendors, and business stakeholders to determine technical requirements and develop network solutions.
- Develop network topologies, protocols, configurations, and technical solutions based on business, security, and system requirements.
- Serve as the Tier 3 escalation point for major incidents, high-severity outages, chronic network issues, and complex technical problems.
- Perform deep-dive troubleshooting using configuration analysis, packet captures, traffic analysis, logs, and network monitoring tools.
- Develop permanent solutions and design improvements to address recurring or complex network issues.
- Own or co-own network architecture standards, reference designs, documentation, and change-control requirements.
- Lead capacity planning, performance engineering, and lifecycle management for core, campus, data center, and WAN infrastructure.
- Evaluate network performance and growth requirements and recommend appropriate architecture, hardware, software, and infrastructure improvements.
- Design and implement routing and switching solutions utilizing technologies such as BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, MPLS, QoS, and VXLAN.
- Design and support enterprise wireless, WAN, SD-WAN, and network security solutions.
- Integrate on-premises network infrastructure with cloud environments, including AWS and Microsoft Azure.
- Design and implement secure network architectures incorporating segmentation, firewalls, VPNs, NAC, and zero-trust principles.
- Develop and maintain network automation, templates, and configuration standards using technologies such as Python, Ansible, or Terraform.
- Participate in major incident response, root-cause analysis, and post-incident reviews.
- Collaborate with security, cloud, systems, application, AV, cabling, and managed services teams on complex technology projects.
- Mentor Tier 1 and Tier 2 engineers and provide technical guidance on advanced troubleshooting and network design.
- Review network designs, configurations, and proposed changes to ensure alignment with established standards and best practices.
- Maintain accurate and authoritative network documentation, diagrams, configurations, runbooks, and as-built records.
- Participate in technology evaluations, vendor discussions, product selection, and infrastructure planning.
- Stay current with emerging networking, cloud, cybersecurity, and infrastructure technologies.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
The ideal candidate is a highly experienced network professional who can take ownership of complex environments, solve challenging technical problems, lead major incident resolution, and make sound architecture and technology decisions., * Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or a related field or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive network engineering experience, including at least 3 years in a senior, advanced engineering, or Tier 3 capacity.
- Expert-level understanding of enterprise networking and network architecture.
- Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, MPLS, QoS, VXLAN, and related networking technologies.
- Extensive experience with enterprise network platforms, including Cisco IOS/IOS-XE/NX-OS, Juniper Junos, or Aruba/HPE.
- Advanced troubleshooting experience using tools such as Wireshark, NetFlow/sFlow, packet capture, and network monitoring platforms.
- Strong understanding of network security technologies, including firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, segmentation, NAC, and secure network design.
- Experience designing and supporting enterprise wireless and WAN infrastructure.
- Experience with cloud networking and hybrid connectivity.
- Demonstrated ability to independently analyze and resolve complex and previously undocumented technical problems.
- Strong understanding of network capacity planning, performance optimization, and infrastructure lifecycle management.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong documentation and organizational skills., * CCNP Enterprise, CCIE, JNCIP, or equivalent professional-level certification.
- Experience with AWS networking, including VPC and Transit Gateway.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure networking, including Virtual Network and Virtual WAN.
- Experience with SD-WAN technologies.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code and network automation using Python, Ansible, or Terraform.
- Experience supporting 24/7 production environments.
- Experience serving as a technical lead during major network incidents.
- Experience performing root-cause analysis for complex, multi-domain outages.
- Familiarity with ITIL incident, problem, and change management processes.
- Experience with zero-trust network architecture.
- Knowledge of security and compliance frameworks such as NIST, PCI-DSS, or HIPAA., The ideal candidate is:
