Job description

The Ansible Automation Platform Engineer is a senior platform engineering professional responsible for designing, operating, and continuously enhancing the enterprise automation, CI/CD, and AI-enabled development platforms that power software delivery across the organization. This role serves as a force multiplier for engineering productivity, enabling development teams to build, test, secure, and deploy applications at scale through platforms such as GitLab SaaS, Ansible Automation Platform (AAP), JFrog Artifactory, SonarQube, and related DevSecOps tooling.

The engineer drives innovation through the integration of agentic AI, intelligent automation, event-driven architectures, and self-healing operational patterns, transforming traditional platform operations into proactive, data-driven engineering services. Responsibilities include building reusable automation frameworks, developing golden-path templates and workflows, implementing deep observability practices, and creating scalable automation solutions that improve platform reliability, security, compliance, and developer experience.

Success in this role requires a strong combination of software engineering, infrastructure automation, cloud platform expertise, AI-driven innovation, and operational excellence. The Automation Platform Engineer influences engineering outcomes across hundreds of teams and thousands of applications by delivering automation capabilities that accelerate software delivery, reduce operational overhead, and establish modern platform engineering standards throughout the enterprise.

Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time. 1. Designs, builds, and implements enterprise infrastructure technology platforms and systems across cloud, network, database, storage, platform, computing, or middleware domains. 2. Applies automation, monitoring, and optimization techniques to ensure high availability and performance of infrastructure. 3. Manages infrastructure engineering projects and processes aligned with organizational policies and regulatory requirements. 4. Collaborates with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to integrate new technologies and continuously improve infrastructure standards and processes. 5. Troubleshoots and resolves complex technical issues impacting infrastructure performance and reliability. 6. Supports compliance with technology strategies, standards, and governance to mitigate risks and ensure regulatory adherence. 7. Reviews and guides infrastructure designs, configurations, and procedures to support operational consistency and knowledge sharing. 8. Provides technical guidance and direction to lower-level technical professionals. 9. Develops technical solutions with deep analysis of infrastructure systems and leads infrastructure processes.

Requirements

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
  2. Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in infrastructure engineering.
  3. Strong knowledge of enterprise infrastructure technologies including cloud, network, database, storage, platform, computing, and middleware.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree and six or more years of experience in platform engineering, infrastructure automation, or DevSecOps, or equivalent combination.

  2. Strong proficiency with Ansible Automation Platform (AAP) including YAML/Jinja2 playbook authoring, RBAC, automation mesh, credential management, and Event-Driven Ansible (EDA), with experience building AI-assisted remediation workflows and GenAI-integrated automation patterns.

  3. Hands-on experience with GitLab CI/CD including pipeline template design, runner configuration, protected branch enforcement, and SAST/SCA/secrets scan gate management, with familiarity with GitLab Duo agentic capabilities spanning Fix Failed Pipelines and SAST Vulnerability Remediation.

  4. Solid experience with JFrog Artifactory repository administration, tagging policies, and artifact promotion workflows, and SonarQube quality gate configuration and code quality enforcement.

  5. Solid understanding of REST APIs, Git-based source control workflows, containerization with Podman and Docker, and Kubernetes-based workload management.

  6. Strong scripting skills in Python and Bash with experience in infrastructure-as-code, policy-as-code, and AI-assisted code generation patterns in regulated environments.

  7. Expertise with OpenTelemetry (OTel) including custom instrumentation, collector configuration, and observability pipeline design for traces, metrics, and logs across service meshes, APIs, and event-driven platforms, with experience using telemetry data to drive AI-informed platform reliability.

  8. Knowledge of networking fundamentals, security hardening, RBAC design, and system performance tuning in regulated enterprise environments.

  9. Excellent problem-solving and communication skills with a passion for translating complex platform challenges into elegant, automated solutions that developers love to use.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in GitLab CI/CD pipeline authoring, including multi-stage pipelines, runners, environments, and security scanning integration.
  • Working knowledge of Ansible and Ansible Automation Platform, including playbook authoring, inventory management, and AAP workflow templates.
  • Experience with OPA (Open Policy Agent) and policy-as-code patterns in pipeline enforcement contexts.
  • Infrastructure-as-code competency in Terraform or equivalent, with demonstrated deployment experience in Azure and/or AWS environments.
  • Python and/or scripting proficiency sufficient to build integration glue, automate workflows, and produce production-grade tooling in short iteration cycles.
  • Experience working in a regulated financial services, healthcare, or government environment where compliance constraints directly shape technical architecture decisions.
  • Operates with high ownership and can make meaningful progress without fully defined requirements.
  • Communicates technical complexity in plain language and can effectively engage both executive and technical audiences.
  • Comfortable operating in environments that include legacy technologies, ongoing modernization efforts, and emerging capabilities.
