Job description
The Data Scientist, Senior supports the Director of the Naval Sustainment System Aviation and the Naval Aviation Enterprise Chief Data and AI Officer by developing and deploying advanced analytic capabilities across the full spectrum of IPS elements.
Performs various tasks related to designing, building, operating, and improving the data pipelines, statistical models, and analytic products that inform weapon systems supportability, readiness, and maintainability decisions.
Collects, compiles, integrates, and analyzes large-scale logistics, maintenance, supply, acquisition, and financial data from disparate authoritative systems, and engineers repeatable processes to transform that data into decision-quality products.
Develops descriptive, diagnostic, and predictive analyses to support requirements determination, spares and provisioning decisions, LCC analysis, budgetary and financial analysis, and IPS/R&M program management analysis.
Prototypes natural language processing and large language model techniques to unstructured sources such as maintenance narratives, discrepancy write-ups, technical data, and free-text remarks to surface actionable insight from data that is otherwise unmanageable at scale.
Builds and documents production-grade data pipelines and model development.
Supports modernization of legacy analytic processes by migrating and re-engineering existing code into the War Data Platform and associated tools.
Briefs findings, methodologies, limitations, and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior Government leadership.
