Job description

Red Technology is looking for an IT Operations Engineer to help run and improve our hosting platform and internal infrastructure. We’re a small, hands-on technical team, and we strongly prioritise candidates with Linux experience - whether from work or home-lab projects.

If you enjoy working with servers, virtualisation, Linux, and core networking concepts, this role will give you real responsibility and room to grow.

What You’ll Do

  • Support and maintain systems across our hosting environment
  • Administer Windows Server (AD, DNS, Group Policy)
  • Work with Linux servers (CLI, services, troubleshooting, logs)
  • Perform daily operational and platform health checks
  • Support virtualisation, backups, monitoring, patching
  • Manage domains and digital certificates
  • Assist with PCI DSS compliance activities
  • Provide secondary support for Windows desktops & Microsoft 365
  • Help with basic networking and firewall configuration

Datacentre experience is not required - just a willingness to work hands-on with server hardware when needed.

Requirements

Essential:

  • 2+ years hands-on server or infrastructure experience
  • Strong Linux experience (professional or substantial home-lab)
  • Windows Server administration skills
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals (IP, subnets, DNS, DHCP)
  • Monitoring/logging tools
  • Experience with virtualisation (VMware, Hyper-V, Proxmox, etc.)
  • Strong troubleshooting ability and attention to detail
  • Interest in hosting operations and infrastructure optimisation

Desirable:

  • Scripting (PowerShell, Bash, Python)
  • SQL Server exposure, * Are you authorised to work in the UK for 3+ years?
  • Which Linux distributions have you used, and what did you do with them?

Benefits & conditions

  • £35,000 - £45,000 per year, depending on experience
  • Monday-Friday, 7.5-hour shift between 8:00am and 6:30pm
  • 23 days holiday + bank holidays

Selection Process

Good applicants will be asked to complete a 1 hour online assessment.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a 1 hour Microsoft Teams interview
