  • Work with business stakeholders to understand the underlying problem a data solution is seeking to address, helping translate business questions into clear analytical use-cases
  • Design and build proof-of-concept analyses and lightweight data solutions within Microsoft Fabric and Power BI, handing over more complex requirements to Data Engineers where appropriate
  • Build simple end-to-end data models for straightforward use-cases, while recognising when additional engineering support is required
  • Produce UAT documentation and support testing activities to ensure delivered data products meet business needs

This demands a high degree of technical judgement to resolve issues quickly while maintaining platform stability, governance and long-term sustainability

The complexity of the platform will continue to increase as wider industry stakeholders, including Network Rail, DfTO and GBR/GBRX initiatives, require access, introducing additional integration, governance and operational risk considerations that must be managed effectively

Knowledge:

  • Solid understanding of analytical concepts and how data supports business decision-making
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft’s data and analytics stack, particularly Power BI and Microsoft Fabric Awareness of data governance, access control and platform standards in an enterprise environment.

Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-structuring skills, with the ability to understand and articulate business problems clearly

  • Ability to build clear, simple analytical solutions on Microsoft Fabric and proof-of-concepts of more complex issues

  • Strong communication skills, able to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Good organisational skills, including documentation, coordination and stakeholder updates

  • Collaborative mindset, with the ability to bridge subject matter experts across different business domains., * Degree (or equivalent experience) in a STEM-related discipline
  • 2-3 years’ experience working with the Microsoft data stack, including Power BI and Microsoft Fabric
