Job description

The Development Manager plays a critical role in supporting fundraising, donor engagement, and development operations for Neighborhood Coalition for Shelter (NCS). Reporting to the Chief Development Officer and working as a member of the Development team, this position ensures the efficient administration of fundraising systems, donor stewardship activities, volunteer engagement, special events, and digital communications that advance NCS’s mission. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously, and enthusiastic about building meaningful relationships with donors and community partners.

Essential Responsibilities

Development Operations & Gift Administration

· Process and record charitable contributions received through online giving platforms, mailed checks, electronic transfers, events, and other fundraising channels.

· Maintain data integrity records in DonorPerfect, including gift entry and constituent updates.

· Coordinate gift processing documentation and reconciliation with the finance department.

· Generate weekly, monthly, and year-to-date fundraising reports.

· Assist with donor segmentation, mailing lists, and campaign tracking.

· Track departmental expenses, invoices, purchase orders, and payment requests.

Donor Stewardship & In-Kind Giving

· Support the implementation of donor communications and fundraising campaigns.

· Build and maintain positive relationships with donors, volunteers, and community partners.

· Research donors and prospects and provide briefing materials to support fundraising efforts.

· Project manage donor stewardship calendar; support scheduling of cultivation and solicitation meetings.

· Assist with solicitation and acknowledgement materials for individuals, corporations, and community partners.

· Coordinate in-kind donations, including outreach, collection, tracking, and distribution.

Events & Fundraising

· Provide logistical and administrative support for fundraising events and donor cultivation activities.

· Support post-event reporting, donor follow-up, and reconciliation activities.

· Support foundation fundraising, including information gathering, editing, and tracking in coordination with grant writer.

Data Analysis & Performance Tracking

· Monitor fundraising and donor engagement metrics.

· Generate reports to support analysis of fundraising campaign performance and decision-making.

· Recommend strategies and tools to improve fundraising effectiveness and donor retention.

Administrative Support

· Purchase supplies and materials for development initiatives.

· Maintain department records and administrative systems.

· Coordinate logistics and execution of mailings and other revenue-generating projects.

· Provide support for special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year

Requirements

· Bachelor’s Degree with 2-4 years of experience in fundraising, nonprofit administration, development operations, communications, volunteer management, or related fields.

· Experience working with donor databases and CRM systems; DonorPerfect experience preferred.

· Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office.

· Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, strong written and verbal communication skills.

· Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

· Commitment to NCS’s mission of providing New Yorkers who are homeless or at risk of homelessness with a home, a community, and access to the services that they need to thrive.

Preferred Skills

· Fundraising and donor stewardship experience.

· Strong writing and editing skills.

· Digital fundraising and online engagement experience.

· Event planning and coordination experience.

· Data entry, reporting, and analysis experience.

Physical Requirements

· Ability to attend occasional evening or weekend events.

· Ability to lift and move event materials, donations, or supplies up to 25 pounds.

· Ability to travel to NCS program and event locations throughout New York City as needed.
