Job description

As part of our growth strategy, we are looking for a bright and enthusiastic individual to join our production team as a Test & Configuration Engineer. You will have a keen interest in IT and computing and be determined to build a career for yourself.

We are recruiting at trainee level. You will receive structured training and support, and will progress into the full Test & Configuration Engineer role on successful completion of your probationary period, once you have gained the necessary skills, training, and experience.

Working as part of the production team, you will test, configure, and prepare computers, servers, and network appliances for delivery. You will run diagnostics, install and configure operating systems and software, apply firmware and updates, complete Pre-Delivery Inspection documentation, and diagnose and repair returned units. Test & Configuration Engineers are key members of the production team, helping Exacta deliver quality products to a varied and growing customer base. This role is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in a fast-growing business.

Key Responsibilities

· Testing and configuration: running hardware diagnostics, updating firmware including BIOS, FRU, and SDR, and installing and configuring operating systems such as Windows, Linux, and customer-specific builds.

· Quality assurance: ensuring units leave the facility fully functional and completing PDI forms accurately.

· Troubleshooting and repair: diagnosing faults and processing returned units through the company Quality and Return Material Authorisation procedures.

· Customer interaction: communicating with customers, where needed, to resolve software-related issues.

· Administration: recording manufacturing order routings and maintaining detailed testing and configuration records.

· Work environment and safety: following ESD procedures and keeping a clean, safe, and organised work area.

Requirements

This is a great opportunity for someone at the start of their career. We are more interested in attitude, aptitude, and a genuine interest in technology than in a long list of qualifications, and we will give you the training you need to succeed.

Essential

· A keen interest in IT, computing, and computer hardware.

· Strong attention to detail and a methodical, thorough approach.

· Good written and verbal communication skills, including confidence dealing with customers.

· Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn.

· Able to work independently and as part of a team.

· Motivated, proactive, and able to use initiative.

· A positive, professional attitude.

· Awareness of, and a commitment to, health and safety.

Desirable

· Some experience of installing and configuring operating systems (Windows, Linux).

· Familiarity with diagnostic software and hardware testing tools.

· Familiarity with imaging hardware and software.

· An understanding of ESD procedures.
