Test/Senior Test Automation Engineer

We are looking for a Test and Senior Test Automation Engineer to help build, drive and maintain high-quality automated coverage across our software products.

We have an established automation framework built using C#/.NET, Reqnroll and Playwright for .NET. You will work closely with developers and product teams to understand capabilities and risks, build reliable automated coverage and continually improve our automation framework and practices.

This is an engineering-focused role working closely with developers and product teams. Developers also contribute to automation, so you will help set the technical direction and standards that enable quality to be owned across engineering.

We are undertaking a technology refresh across our products. Automation is firmly our direction, although some manual and exploratory testing will still be required during the transition and for releases where needed.

What you’ll do - Mid level

• Design and develop automated tests using C#/.NET, Reqnroll and Playwright for .NET.
• Build risk-based automated coverage across API, integration, data and UI layers.
• Create deterministic, repeatable and isolated test scenarios using automated data seeding across SQL Server and MongoDB.
• Run and manage automated tests through Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines and investigate failures.
• Contribute improvements to our automation framework, reusable components and engineering practices.
• Work with developers and product teams to build automation alongside product development.
• Use AI-assisted engineering tools to accelerate automation development, investigation and maintenance.
• Help develop our capability in performance, load and other non-functional testing.
• Contribute to performance, load and other non-functional testing as our capability develops.
• Contribute to manual and exploratory testing where required during our technology refresh and for releases.

Additional for the senior role

• Lead the evolution of our automation approach, framework and technical standards.
• Drive, build and own reliable, deterministic automation with repeatable data setup and isolation, owning the full automated test execution within Azure DevOps pipelines, including reliability, parallelisation, reporting and failure diagnosis.
• Continuously improve the framework, eliminating flaky, slow or low-value tests and maintaining strong engineering standards.

·Review automation contributions and help developers build effective automated coverage alongside product development

• Good C#/.NET development and test automation experience.
• Hands-on experience with Playwright for .NET or a comparable modern browser automation framework.
• Experience with BDD tooling such as Reqnroll or SpecFlow.
• REST API testing experience.
• Experience with SQL Server/T-SQL or comparable relational database technologies.
• Understanding of reliable automation practices including deterministic data setup, test isolation, repeatable execution and avoiding flaky tests.
• Experience running automated tests through CI/CD pipelines and investigating failures.
• Experience with Git and modern PR/code-review workflows.
• Ability to understand product behaviour and risk and translate this into useful automated coverage.
• An automation-first engineering mindset, with an interest in improving frameworks and tooling rather than simply adding test scenarios.

Desirable

• Strong Playwright for .NET experience.
• Azure DevOps Repos and Pipelines experience.
• MongoDB or other document database experience.
• Performance/load testing experience using k6, JMeter or similar.
• Docker and/or Testcontainers experience.
• API contract testing experience.
• Azure, Kubernetes or distributed/service-based architecture experience.
• Experience using AI-assisted software engineering and testing tools.
