Job description
We’re looking for an IT Specialist who can hit the ground running as a central point of contact for everything our users need to stay productive. This is a hands-on role: you’ll be fielding helpdesk tickets, managing endpoints, coordinating with our managed service provider (MSP) on escalations, and helping us maintain a secure, well-run Microsoft 365 environment. You’ll report directly to the Director of IT and be based out of our Solana Beach office, and may frequently work from our downtown San Diego location. Our IT team is small and impactful, just two people who own the full stack of end user support, systems administration, and vendor coordination, and we’re growing it. If you like variety, ownership, and the satisfaction of solving real problems for real people, this is the job. THE DAY-TO-DAY End User Support
- Triage and resolve hardware and software related helpdesk tickets within SLA targets either in person or remotely; follow up with users to confirm resolution
- Support the full Microsoft 365 suite: Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Office, and other apps
- Manage user accounts and access in Active Directory, Entra ID, and Azure, including onboarding and offboarding
Endpoint & Systems Management
- Manage and monitor endpoints patching, alerting, remote support, and health checks
- Image, configure, and deploy laptops and other hardware for new employees
- Maintain hardware inventory and coordinate equipment shipping and returns
- Administer and troubleshoot Windows 11 systems in a hybrid cloud/on-premise forest
Security & Compliance
- Support Entra ID conditional access, MFA enrollment, and identity governance
- Escalate security incidents to the Director of IT and coordinate with the MSP as needed
- Assist with periodic access reviews and permission audits
- Help enforce the company’s IT-related standards and policies
MSP & Vendor Coordination
- Work alongside our MSP for escalations that require deeper infrastructure or network expertise
- Communicate clearly with vendors and service providers on open issues and projects
- Document configurations, procedures, and known issues so nothing lives only in someone’s head
- All other duties as assigned
Requirements
- 3 to 5 years of desktop support experience in a Microsoft environment
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 (Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, Intune)
- Active Directory and Entra ID administration
- Experience troubleshooting Dell and Mac hardware
- Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking fundamentals
- Experience with a helpdesk ticketing platform (Freshworks or similar)
Preferred
- Exposure to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (user administration or basic troubleshooting)
- Exposure to PowerBI and PowerApps
- PowerShell scripting for routine administration tasks
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related field
- CompTIA A+, Network+, or Microsoft certifications
Skills and Traits
- Detail-oriented with a clean, consistent approach to ticketing and documentation
- Strong communicator who can explain a technical issue to a non-technical person without talking down to them
- Self-starter who can manage multiple open issues without losing track
- Comfortable asking for help when something is outside your scope; that’s what the MSP is for
- Looks for opportunities to improve processes, simplify how work gets done, increase efficiency, and improve the user experience
- Growth mindset: you don’t need to know everything on day one, but you need to want to learn
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in an office environment and operate standard equipment
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
