Job description

We recognize that experience gained while serving may not look like a traditional commercial Software Developer resume. What matters is the work you have performed, the technical skills you have developed, your ability to solve problems, and the understanding of the Navy mission and operational environment that you bring with you. As a member of FTI’s team supporting the Naval Safety Command, you will work alongside Software Engineers, Data Scientists, and technical experts to develop, test, and maintain software and data solutions supporting the Navy’s safety mission., What You Will Work On

  • Design, develop, document, test, and debug software applications and solutions.
  • Develop and maintain data pipelines and support data transformation activities.
  • Analyze existing code, troubleshoot problems, identify errors, and improve applications.
  • Participate throughout the software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, development, testing, and implementation.
  • Work alongside Software Engineers, Data Scientists, and Navy customers to prototype, refine, test, and deploy solutions.
  • Help transition analytical and AI models developed by Data Scientists into operational applications and workflows.
  • Develop modular functions, classes, packages, and reusable software components.
  • Use Git and modern source control practices to collaborate with other developers.
  • Support automated testing and quality checks to improve software reliability.
  • Contribute to dashboard development, data visualization, reporting, and other customer facing analytical products.
  • Apply your existing understanding of Navy operations, terminology, processes, and mission requirements while expanding your technical experience in software development, data, and AI.

Requirements

  • Recently transitioned or currently transitioning Navy service member with relevant technical experience.
  • DoD Secret clearance.
  • Hands on experience gained during military service in software development, programming, application development, automation, data engineering, systems development, technical analysis, or related technical work.
  • Experience using Python, R, C#, Angular, or comparable programming languages, frameworks, or development technologies.
  • Experience working with data, developing software solutions, automating processes, or solving technical problems in an operational environment.
  • Experience or familiarity with modular programming, functions, classes, packages, source control, software testing, debugging, or data transformation.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts and collaborate with both technical and nontechnical team members.

Additional Experience That Would Be Valuable

  • Experience with Databricks, Apache Spark, Git, data pipelines, automated testing, Agile or Scrum development, Qlik, Tableau, Python based visualization tools, machine learning, AI, predictive analytics, or large data sets is beneficial.
  • Experience directly supporting Navy customers or developing technical solutions in response to operational requirements would also be valuable.

Continue the Mission in a New Role

Your transition from military service does not have to mean leaving the Navy mission behind. The technical experience you developed while serving has value. Whether you have been writing code, automating processes, working with data, developing applications, supporting operational systems, or solving technical problems for your command, those experiences can provide the foundation for your next career.

About the company

FTI Defense is seeking transitioning Navy service members who want to continue supporting the Navy mission while building the next chapter of their careers in software development, data, and AI centric solutions.
