DEKRA Certification BV is looking for a motivated and technically skilled Battery Test Engineer / Project Manager to support battery testing and certification activities. The role is focused mainly on Li-ion batteries, including battery modules, packs, and battery energy storage systems (BESS) used in industrial, and energy storage applications. The selected candidate will be involved in testing batteries according to relevant national and international standards. In addition to technical testing activities, the candidate will also be trained to take on project management responsibilities, including customer communication, planning, coordination, and follow-up of testing and certification projects. This position is suitable for someone with a strong interest in battery technology, safety testing, standards, and certification, who also wants to grow into a broader technical and project coordination role., The Battery Test Engineer / Project Manager will support and perform battery testing activities according to applicable standards, such as IEC 62133, 62619, 62620, UN 38.3, customer requirements, and internal DEKRA procedures. Responsibilities include preparing test plans, setting up equipment, performing and monitoring tests, analysing results, and preparing technical reports. The candidate will work on electrical, thermal, mechanical, environmental, performance, safety, and abuse tests for battery modules, packs, and complete battery systems. The role requires careful preparation, strong attention to safety, and documentation. A key part of the role is working with relevant battery standards and regulations. The candidate will support testing according to standards such as IEC, ISO, UL, UN, and other applicable battery-related requirements. The role includes understanding test procedures, acceptance criteria, and documentation requirements for certification purposes. In addition to technical testing, the candidate will be trained in project management tasks, including project planning, scheduling, coordination, documentation, and progress tracking. Over time, the candidate is expected to manage battery testing projects from customer request to final report delivery. Key Duties The main duties of the position include: Preparing and performing battery tests according to relevant standards and customer requirements. Working with battery cyclers, environmental chambers, sensors, measurement systems, power supplies, and data acquisition equipment. Collecting, processing, and analysing test data. Preparing technical test reports and supporting certification documentation. Reviewing customer specifications, test requests, and technical documents. Communicating with customers and internal experts about test progress and technical matters. Supporting project planning, coordination, documentation, and follow-up.
Requirements
The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields: electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, energy systems, chemical engineering, or a closely related discipline. Relevant work experience in battery testing, certification, or a similar technical field may be considered equivalent. The candidate should have knowledge of battery technology, especially lithium-ion batteries. This includes basic understanding of battery cells, modules, packs, battery management systems, thermal behaviour, aging, performance, and safety risks. Experience with laboratory testing, measurement equipment, or electrical systems is considered important. The candidate should be able to read and understand technical standards, test procedures, and customer specifications. Good analytical skills are required to evaluate test results and identify technical issues. The candidate should also be able to prepare clear technical documentation and reports. A structured and accurate working style is essential. Since battery testing can involve safety risks, the candidate must be safety-conscious and willing to follow strict laboratory procedures. Good communication skills in English are required, both written and verbal. Preferred Qualifications Experience with battery testing, battery certification, or product safety testing is an advantage. Knowledge of standards such as IEC 62619, IEC 62620, IEC 62133, UN 38.3, or similar standards is preferred. Experience with battery cyclers, environmental chambers, thermal sensors, electrical measurement equipment, insulation testers, power supplies, electronic loads, or data acquisition systems is also beneficial. Personal Skills The successful candidate should be technically curious, eager to learn, and interested in battery testing and certification. The role requires attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and a strong sense of responsibility. The candidate should be able to work independently but also cooperate effectively with engineers, technicians, project managers, certification experts, and customers. Because the role includes development toward project management, the candidate should be organized, communicative, and able to manage several tasks at the same time. A customer-oriented mindset and the ability to work under deadlines are important.
