The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience testing mission-critical systems, Air Traffic Management (ATM) systems, network infrastructure, and/or radio-telephone communications hardware and software.

This role will be responsible for planning, developing, executing, and documenting system-level testing, including informal testing, system verification, and customer acceptance testing. The engineer will also work directly with customers, engineering teams, and technical partners to understand system-level and site-specific requirements, develop test strategies, and resolve technical issues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply established testing principles, including test documentation, requirements traceability, test coverage, and verification methodologies.
  • Perform functional, performance, security, integration, and system-level testing.
  • Develop verification strategies and test specifications based on customer requirements, product requirements, hardware/software specifications, and operational use cases.
  • Manage test environments for assigned programs, including test scripts, configurations, test equipment, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Identify, analyze, and thoroughly document defects and unexpected system behavior, including clear steps for reproducing issues.
  • Review and interpret system and software requirements from a testability and verification perspective.
  • Maintain organized test records, results, and supporting documentation.
  • Analyze historical test results to identify recurring issues, trends, and potential areas of improvement.
  • Communicate technical issues, test results, risks, and project status to Test Management, Engineering teams, customers, and other stakeholders.
  • Support informal testing, system verification, customer acceptance testing, and related Test & Integration activities.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience testing Air Traffic Management systems, radio-control equipment, VoIP systems, advanced networking environments, or comparable mission-critical systems.
  • Experience developing internal and customer-deliverable system-level test plans and procedures, preferably for mission-critical equipment within a production environment.
  • Experience working with telecommunications systems and technologies, including VoIP, T1, ISDN, POTS, and TDM.
  • Ability to develop clear, concise test plans and test procedures based on system requirements.
  • Strong experience documenting, tracking, and communicating system defects and unexpected behavior.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and technical troubleshooting skills.
  • Minimum of 5 years of test-related professional experience, including hands-on hardware testing.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.

Preferred Technical Experience

  • Experience working with digital and analog telecommunications, including VoIP and radio systems.
  • Experience using industry-standard electronic and telecommunications test equipment, including:

o Oscilloscopes o Transmission Impairment Measurement Sets (TIMS) o Multimeters o Viavi T-BERD o Sage Multi-Channel Test Instruments

  • Experience with commercial performance, simulation, and analysis testing tools such as VOTER, GL Communications TDM solutions, or comparable platforms.
  • Familiarity with industry and government standards, including ED-137, MIL-STD-461G, FCC 47 Part B, FAA-G-2100H, FAA NextGen, and DO-278A.
  • Experience with network and packet-analysis tools, particularly Wireshark.
  • Familiarity with Linux operating systems and fundamental IP networking concepts.
  • Experience with defect and requirements-management platforms such as JIRA and JAMA.
  • Strong understanding of system testing methodologies, verification and validation, Agile/Scrum development processes, and project lifecycles.

Additional Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent technical documentation capabilities.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to interpret complex system and software requirements.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a cross-functional engineering team.
  • Comfortable communicating directly with customers, technical partners, engineering teams, and project stakeholders.
