Job description

As a Java Engineer, you will design, develop, test, and support secure enterprise web applications and modern authentication solutions. This role focuses on building scalable, resilient, and user-friendly identity and access management capabilities, including Passwordless Login, Risk-Based Authentication, and API-driven services within a service-oriented architecture. You will collaborate with product owners, architects, security teams, and engineering stakeholders to deliver high-quality software while maintaining ownership across the full software development lifecycle. The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in Java development, secure application design, API development, authentication technologies, and AI-assisted software engineering practices., Own the design, development, testing, deployment, and support of complex application components and authentication services. Collaborate with product owners, Scrum teams, architects, and stakeholders to define requirements, estimate effort, and deliver solutions aligned with sprint and release commitments. Design and implement secure authentication experiences using risk signals, telemetry, and policy-based decision-making. Contribute to Passwordless Login, FIDO2, WebAuthn, passkey authentication, and modern identity management initiatives. Develop and consume RESTful APIs, gateway-based integrations, and reusable services aligned with enterprise architecture standards. Ensure high standards for automated testing, CI/CD, code quality, security scanning, observability, and production readiness. Troubleshoot and resolve production issues while performing root cause analysis and implementing long-term solutions. Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, technical discussions, and knowledge-sharing activities. Utilize AI-assisted engineering tools for development, refactoring, testing, troubleshooting, scripting, automation, and documentation. Apply agentic and spec-driven development methodologies using structured prompts and technical specifications. Validate AI-generated code, testing assets, and documentation to ensure security, accuracy, maintainability, and quality. Promote responsible AI-assisted development practices and share best practices with team members.

Requirements

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience. 5+ years of experience developing enterprise applications using Java, JavaScript, and modern web frameworks. Strong experience with Angular or similar front-end technologies. Proven expertise developing secure web applications and building or consuming RESTful APIs. Experience with Spring Boot, Spring Cloud Gateway, and service-oriented or microservices-based architectures. Hands-on experience with automated testing frameworks such as JUnit, Karma, Cucumber, BDD frameworks, accessibility testing tools, or similar technologies. Experience working with MongoDB, PostgreSQL, or similar relational and NoSQL databases. Experience with CI/CD pipelines, secure software development practices, deployment automation, and code quality tools. Strong knowledge of observability, monitoring, and log analysis tools such as Splunk, Grafana, BigQuery, or similar platforms. Understanding of OAuth, SAML, JWT, authentication protocols, and modern identity management concepts. Ability to research, apply, and implement evolving identity standards and industry best practices. Hands-on experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or comparable coding assistants. Experience leveraging AI tools for code generation, test creation, refactoring, troubleshooting, automation, and documentation. Working knowledge of agentic workflows, structured prompting, custom instructions, and spec-driven software development. Ability to validate AI-assisted outputs for quality, correctness, security, maintainability, and alignment with architectural standards. Experience designing or implementing Passwordless Login, FIDO2, WebAuthn, passkey authentication, or modern identity solutions is preferred. Experience with Risk-Based Authentication, risk scoring, device intelligence, behavioral analytics, and policy-based access controls is preferred. Experience deploying containerized applications to AWS, GCP, or similar cloud platforms is desirable. Familiarity with GitHub Actions, Bamboo, SonarQube, Black Duck, Veracode, or similar DevOps and security tools is a plus. Knowledge of NIST identity standards and highly regulated enterprise environments is preferred. Experience with performance testing, scalability analysis, and performance engineering practices is beneficial. Exposure to Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI-enabled engineering workflows within enterprise environments is preferred. Strong analytical thinking, software design, system architecture, application support, deployment, and troubleshooting skills. Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement abilities. The hourly range for roles of this nature are $60.00 to $80.00/hr.
