Job description

The Planner Product Team is seeking a hybrid Scrum Master / Software Engineer who will report to the Product Owner, provide servant leadership, and contribute hands-on Java development.

Approximately 30% of the role will be dedicated to facilitating Agile ceremonies (daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives) and guiding the team through Program Increment (PI) planning, feature decomposition, and cross-team dependency management. The remaining 70% will focus on designing, coding, testing, debugging, and maintaining Java applications, CI/CD pipelines, and automation tools . Success will be measured by timely delivery of sprint and PI objectives, high team engagement, rapid impediment removal, and high-quality, mission-critical software that meets performance, security, and reliability standards.

Requirements

  • Proven Scrum Master experience with the ability to provide servant leadership and facilitate Agile ceremonies
  • 3-5+ years of hands-on Java development experience
  • Experience designing, coding, testing, debugging, and maintaining Java applications
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation tools
  • Strong technical and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to support PI planning, feature decomposition, and cross-team dependency management
  • Experience working in a high-availability systems environment
  • Scrum Master or Agile certification (CSM, CSP, PMI-ACP, SSM, PSM, or equivalent)
  • Experience supporting software engineering on DoD programs and/or missile defense systems
  • Experience working in a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) environment
  • Experience leading Agile teams supporting complex DoD software systems
  • Experience decomposing Agile features into user stories with clear acceptance criteria (PI and sprint planning)
  • Familiarity with Earned Value Management System (EVMS) for government financial tracking
  • Experience supporting Regional Applications / Battle Management / Sensor Resource Management work
  • Experience working with teams in Huntsville
