Job description

The Enterprise Solutions Architect - Consultant strategically provides solutions for the design and implementation of in-house information systems, hardware, and networked software architectures that support core organizational functions, and assure their high availability. This position ensures organizational commitment for all systems and software plans, as well as evaluates and selects all technologies required to complete those plans. In addition, the solutions architect provides technical leadership across the organization, from strategic decision making down to the project planning level. The consultant is recognized as a technical solutions expert in one or more critical products, programs and/or technologies. This position is responsible for developing and implementing new products and/or approaches in conjunction with implementing new/existing technologies. The enterprise solutions architect typically serves as a technical consultant/specialist both inside Intermountain Healthcare and to outside organizations. Primary assignment involves Intermountain’s most complex and critical technical issues. Provides guidance to all members of the team.

This is a senior-level architecture position that will provide technical and strategic leadership across business, product, engineering, data, integration, cloud, and emerging AI initiatives. The architect will serve as a trusted advisor, help teams evaluate technology options and trade-offs, participate in architecture governance, and ensure that solutions align with enterprise standards and long-term strategy. The role will be involved with some of the organization’s most complex and critical technology initiatives.

Candidates should be comfortable operating across multiple teams, facilitating solution-design discussions, producing clear architecture documentation, and communicating recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences. Candidates who live in, or are willing to relocate to, Utah and are within a reasonable commuting distance to Select Health’s offices are preferred. Please note that a video interview through Microsoft Teams will be required as well as potential onsite interviews and meetings. This role will work Monday-Friday during regular business hours.

Essential Functions

· Leads in the design and implements long-term strategic goals and short-term tactical plans for managing and maintaining corporate systems and software.

· Ensures that proposed and existing system architectures are aligned with organizational goals and objectives.

· Provides architectural expertise, direction, and assistance to Systems Analysts, Systems Engineers, other Enterprise Solution Architects, and software development teams.

· Develops, documents, and communicates plans for investing in systems architecture, including analysis of cost reduction opportunities.

· Leads in the research of emerging technologies in support of systems development efforts, and recommends technologies that will increase cost effectiveness and systems flexibility.

· Where applicable, uses expert knowledge to design, develop, and oversee implementation of end-to-end integrated systems.

· Documents the company’s existing systems architecture and technology portfolio; makes recommendations for improvements and/or alternatives.

· Reviews new and existing systems design projects and procurement or outsourcing plans for compliance with standards and architectural plans.

· Confers with end-users, clients, or senior management to define business requirements for complex systems and infrastructure development.

· Models business and systems processes based on findings through use case scenarios, workflow diagrams, and data models.

· Develops and executes test plans to check infrastructure and systems technical performance. Reports on findings and make recommendations for improvement.

· Develops and manages a systems/solutions capacity plan.

· Develops, documents, communicates, and enforces a policy for standardizing systems and software as necessary.

The Solution Architect serves as the bridge between business stakeholders, product teams, engineering teams, and enterprise platforms, translating business needs into technology solutions that drive measurable outcomes. This role will provide architectural leadership across applications, integrations, cloud platforms, data solutions, and emerging AI capabilities while ensuring alignment with enterprise standards and long-term technology strategy. This individual will play a critical role in designing scalable, secure, and innovative technology solutions that enable growth, operational excellence, and digital transformation.

Key Responsibilities

Business & Technology Alignment

· Partner with business leaders, product owners, and engineering teams to understand strategic goals and translate them into technology solutions.

· Facilitate discovery sessions and solution design workshops.

· Develop solution architectures that align to business capabilities, operational priorities, and enterprise roadmaps.

· Communicate architecture decisions, trade-offs, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Solution Architecture & Design

· Design end-to-end solutions across applications, integrations, cloud services, data platforms, and enterprise systems.

· Create solution diagrams, architecture decision records, data flow models, and technical documentation.

· Define functional and non-functional requirements including availability, scalability, performance, security, and resiliency.

· Evaluate build-versus-buy options and recommend technology solutions aligned with business objectives.

Cloud & Integration Architecture

· Architect solutions using Azure cloud services and modern integration patterns.

· Design API-driven, event-driven, and service-oriented architectures.

· Collaborate with engineering teams to establish reusable patterns and platform standards.

· Ensure enterprise systems integrate effectively and support future scalability.

Data, Analytics & AI

· Collaborate with data engineering and analytics teams to design data-centric solutions.

· Identify opportunities to leverage AI, automation, and intelligent workflows to improve business outcomes.

· Support adoption of Microsoft Copilot, Azure AI, and other AI-enabled capabilities where appropriate.

· Ensure governance, security, and responsible AI principles are incorporated into solution designs.

Architecture Governance

· Participate in architecture review boards and solution governance processes.

· Ensure solutions adhere to technology standards, security requirements, compliance obligations, and architectural principles.

· Establish and maintain architecture documentation and reference architectures.

· Promote best practices across solution design and implementation teams.

Technical Leadership

· Provide architecture guidance to development teams throughout project delivery.

· Mentor engineers and technical leads on architecture principles and solution design practices.

· Serve as a trusted advisor for complex technical challenges and strategic initiatives.

Requirements

Eight years of enterprise solutions architect experience.

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information management or other technical field. Degree must be obtained through an accredited institution. Education is verified.

Minimum Qualifications for the Senior Level

Six years of enterprise solutions architect experience.

· Experience with AI-enabled solutions, automation, and enterprise modernization initiatives.

· Working technical knowledge of current systems software, protocols, and standards.
