Job description

As a Senior Software Engineer , you will make an impact by designing, developing, and delivering scalable enterprise applications that support critical healthcare payer operations. You will be a valued member of a collaborative engineering team, working closely with architects, product owners, and platform teams to build secure, high-performing solutions using microservices, Java, Python, cloud technologies, and modern data platforms. In this role, you will help drive innovation, improve system reliability, and contribute to delivering exceptional digital experiences for healthcare customers.

In this role, you will:

· Design, develop, and enhance scalable microservices-based applications using Java, Spring Boot, Python, and cloud-native technologies.

· Build and optimize backend services, APIs, and database solutions that support high-volume healthcare payer operations and business workflows.

· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define technical requirements, estimate effort, and deliver high-value features through Agile development practices.

· Improve application performance, reliability, and scalability by identifying bottlenecks, implementing monitoring solutions, and resolving production issues.

· Contribute to code quality, automated testing, CI/CD practices, and engineering best practices through code reviews, documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

· Strong experience with Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, and REST API development .

· Hands-on experience with Python and modern software engineering practices.

· Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, including MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB .

· Experience with cloud and container technologies, including AWS (EC2, EMR, RDS, S3, Athena), Kubernetes, and Docker .

· Experience with CI/CD and software quality tools such as GitLab, CloudWatch, JUnit, and Mockito .

· Experience working within the Healthcare Payer domain.

This will help you stand out

· Experience supporting Capitation platforms, payment models, or healthcare claims-related solutions.

· Experience with Apache Spark and large-scale data processing environments.

· Strong understanding of distributed system design, observability, and microservices architecture.

· Experience improving application performance, scalability, and operational efficiency in cloud environments.

· Ability to mentor team members, influence technical decisions, and drive engineering best practices across distributed teams.

Benefits & conditions

The annual salary for this position is between $81,337 to $141,500 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
