An ambitious university requires dedicated support to our scientists within the fields of Research Data Management (RDM) and Open Science. This support is provided by the Product Area Research, as part of the Library and Information Services (LIS). Within the product area Research, IT Consultants and Data Stewards closely collaborate in the Research Data Infrastructure lab and the Super Computing Centre to support our research community.

The position

The data steward team vision is to help researchers with new challenges in a collaborative way, while being an advocate of open & responsible scientific practices that transcend TU/e. We are looking for a Data Steward with good understanding of research data management, research data infrastructure, and privacy and ethics in research. You will serve as first-line support for researchers in addressing internal and external requirements regarding interoperability.

Your tasks and responsibilities are best described as follows:

  • Support and advise our Researchers on RDM-related issues, such as:
  • Data Management Plans (DMP);
  • Data management paragraphs for grant proposals;
  • Collection, storage, publication and archival of research data;
  • FAIR principles in research data, focusing on interoperability;
  • Hands-on support actively implementing the RDM policy.

Support and advise Researchers on privacy-related issues, such as:

  • Informed consent and privacy notices;
  • Evaluating privacy roles within research collaborations and consortia and identifying the needed agreements and documents;
  • Assessing privacy and legal risks (including copyright and licensing) during the entire research lifecycle;
  • Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA) in collaboration with the Privacy team;
  • Develop and provide trainings on RDM and privacy/GDPR compliance.

Support and collaborate with your teams and your departments, such as:

  • Being part of the Hub-, data steward-, Product Area Research- team;
  • Achieving team objectives by working together with others;
  • Establish a functional and appropriate services supply chain for researchers in coordination with colleagues of the Product Area Research., * A pre-employment screening (e.g. knowledge security check) can be part of the selection procedure. Requirements

Do you have experience in Supply chain?, Do you have a Master’s degree?, Would you like to work on shaping tomorrow’s world? Contribute to groundbreaking innovations in technological knowledge? Are you a Data Steward but also a team player who feels at home in an international and interdisciplinary environment? Then we are looking for you!, * An academic level of work and thinking, preferably a completed Master or PhD in the technical or medical sciences, and an affinity with research practice;

  • Proactive and result-oriented attitude. You gain energy from pioneering and collaborating within a relatively new field of work in support of scientific research;
  • You have the ability to easily assimilate knowledge, and are not afraid to learn on the job;
  • You are skilled in transferring and sharing knowledge to staff, students, junior researchers, and senior researchers;
  • Ability to connect and translate various requirements (i.e. legal, policy and technical) into solutions and best practices, with regards to RDM and data stewardship;
  • Customer-oriented and supportive way of working, you gain energy from supporting and solving issues for others within the organization;
  • Networking skills and you feel comfortable with connecting people and building networks;
  • Excellent communication and negotiating skills, and you are able to be authoritative when the situation requires it;
  • You have excellent English language skills, both verbally and in writing. Proficiency in the Dutch language is not a requirement, but it is an advantage.

Preferably you have:

  • Experience in handling privacy-sensitive data and knowledge of GDPR, and/or willingness to develop yourself further in this field.
  • Experience in or a demonstrable affinity with RDM and data stewardship within higher education or a research institution.
  • Knowledge which will contribute to applying FAIR principles to research data.
