Job description

The Technical Documentation Specialist supports a variety of Navy Littoral Strike and Warfare programs by developing, editing, and managing technical data and documentation. This role helps ensure high-quality technical manuals, engineering documentation, and configuration data are produced and maintained to support fleet readiness. The position combines technical writing, engineering documentation support, basic data management, and problem-solving-ideal for someone detail-oriented who is eager to learn and grow., Technical Writing & Editing

  • Edit, proofread, and format technical manuals and documentation.
  • Implement redlines, collaborate with engineers to resolve edits, and maintain consistent formatting and style.
  • Assist with developing structured technical content using XML-based authoring processes.

Data & Configuration Support

  • Manage and update technical data modules, figures, and related source data.
  • Perform quality checks on structured content to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Support database publishing workflows and maintain documentation repositories.

Automation & Tools Support

  • Help develop or update simple scripts and tools (e.g., XML, Python, JavaScript, VBA) to streamline authoring, data management, and publication processes.
  • Assist in maintaining automated processes for technical manual production and data tracking.

Engineering Documentation Support

  • Support drawing management and documentation reviews to ensure alignment with engineering changes.
  • Investigate technical issues reported from the fleet and help draft recommendations or corrective action summaries.
  • Assist with maintaining configuration control for hardware and software items, including tracking changes and verifying updates.

Program & Administrative Support

  • Help track engineering inputs, metrics, project schedules, and documentation status.
  • Contribute to briefings, technical summaries, meeting minutes, and other program support materials.
  • Coordinate with engineering, logistics, and program management teams to ensure documentation needs are met.

Requirements

  • Must be legally authorized to in the United States without the need of employer sponsorship now or at any time in the future
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance level Secret
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality documentation.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to learn new tools, standards, and structured authoring processes.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with technical writing or documentation workflows.
  • Experience with XML authoring or tools such as FrameMaker, Arbortext, or similar.
  • Exposure to scripting languages (Python, JavaScript, VBA, etc.).
  • Understanding of configuration management concepts.
  • Experience in engineering, logistics, defense systems, or naval programs.
  • Ability to read technical drawings or engineering documentation.

Security Clearance:

Applicants must have an active security clearance and/or the ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Security Clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements to obtain a DoD Government- granted security clearance.
