Business Intelligence Specialist - Auburn Hills, MI (Hybrid) :: Contract (W2)

We are seeking an experienced Business Intelligence Specialist to support and drive our BI operations across multiple platforms. This role requires deep hands-on expertise in Power BI, Tableau, SAP BI, and SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC), strong semantic modeling skills, and the ability to serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for BI tools across the organization - supporting development, administration, governance, and business user enablement. Key Responsibilities Tool Expertise & Development

• Maintain deep, current knowledge of Power BI, Tableau, SAP BI, and SAC, including their respective architectures, licensing models, and product roadmaps.
• Design and build robust semantic models (data models, relationships, measures, calculated fields) optimized for reporting and self-service analytics.
• Apply modern BI features including advanced charts/graphs, segmentations, drill-through/drill-down reporting, scheduled refreshes and distribution, and alerting.
• Understand and articulate product differentiation across BI platforms to guide tool selection and use-case fit.
• Understand client-based vs. cloud/server-based service models for each platform (e.g., Tableau Desktop/Server vs. Tableau Cloud, Power BI Desktop vs. Power BI Service, SAP BI on-prem vs. SAC cloud).
• Stay current on emerging AI-assisted BI features (e.g., Copilot in Power BI, Tableau Agent/Pulse, SAC AI features) to accelerate development and adoption.

Migration & Integration

• Lead or support migration projects from SAP BI to Power BI or Tableau, including content conversion, semantic model redesign, and validation.
• Integrate BI tools with diverse data sources: Oracle, Cloudera, AWS (S3, Athena, RDS), GCP BigQuery, Azure/Azure Foundry, and other cloud/on-prem data platforms.
• Apply understanding of ETL/ELT processes and upstream data pipelines to support accurate, performant report and dashboard development.

Administration & Operations

• Support on-prem and SaaS administration of BI tools, including Tableau on-prem services (restarts, reboots, logging, monitoring, alerting).
• Build and maintain governance/usage dashboards to monitor platform adoption, performance, and license utilization.
• Perform periodic license audits and cleanups to optimize cost and compliance.
• Support authentication and authorization integration for BI platforms using Microsoft Entra ID, ISAM, or LDAP.
• Review and remediate security vulnerabilities for on-prem BI products in a timely manner.

Performance & Best Practices

• Optimize dashboard and report performance to eliminate long-running queries and improve end-user experience.
• Define and promote BI layer best practices (data modeling standards, naming conventions, workbook/report design standards).

Enablement & Support

• Act as the SME for BI tools, supporting business users with development questions, troubleshooting, and adoption.
• Deliver training sessions and build user guides / knowledge base articles for BI tool usage and new features.
• Develop reusable templates to help users quickly adopt new BI features and capabilities.

• 8+ years of experience in business intelligence, reporting, or data analytics roles.
• Deep, hands-on experience with Power BI, Tableau, SAP BI, and SAC.
• Strong understanding of semantic model design and data modeling for reporting.
• Proficiency with modern BI features: charts, graphs, segmentation, scheduling, alerting, and reporting.
• Experience with BI platform migrations (e.g., SAP BI to Power BI/Tableau).
• Experience integrating BI tools with Oracle, Cloudera, AWS (S3, Athena, RDS), GCP BigQuery, and Azure data sources.
• Working knowledge of ETL/ELT concepts and data pipeline processes.
• Experience with on-prem BI administration: service management, logging, monitoring, and alerting.
• Familiarity with authentication/authorization frameworks: Entra ID, ISAM, LDAP.
• Understanding of security vulnerability management for on-prem applications.
• Strong communication and training/documentation skills.
• Ability to analyze and optimize dashboard/report performance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certifications in Power BI, Tableau, or SAP BI/SAC.
• Experience building governance/usage-monitoring dashboards for BI platforms.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted BI development features.
