Job description

This position is for a Mission Assurance Software Engineer Senior supporting Anti-Tamper software development on the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) and Integrated Fighter Group (IFG) platforms. Opportunities to support other LM Aero platforms may become available as the candidate progresses in this role. Daily tasks include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Develop, maintain, and execute unit tests and requirements-driven test suites for mission-critical software components.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies (scrum, sprint planning, retrospectives) and use Agile tools (Jira, Confluence, etc.) to track work and deliverables.
  • Implement software features using C/C++ in a Linux environment; manage source code with GitLab (branching, merging, pull-requests).
  • Design and develop middleware components that enable communication between subsystems.
  • Build, configure, and maintain CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI, Jenkins, etc.) to automate builds, static analysis, testing, and deployment.
  • Perform embedded software development, including memory-mapped hardware access, bare-metal coding, and real-time operating system (RTOS) integration.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis of software anomalies: fault isolation, debugging, and after-action reporting.
  • Collaborate with system engineers, hardware engineers, and test teams to ensure software meets interface, performance, and security requirements.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation, test procedures, and operational guidance.

The successful candidate plans, conducts, and coordinates software development activities. Designs, develops, documents, tests, and debugs software that contains logical and mathematical solutions to business/mission problems or questions in computer language for solutions by means of data processing equipment. Applies the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the development life cycle. Applies knowledge of computer hardware and software, subject matter to be programmed in business/mission applications, information processing techniques used, and information gathered from system users to develop software. Corrects program errors, prepares operating instructions, compiles documentation of program development, and analyzes system capabilities to resolve questions of program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques, and controls. Ensures software standards are met.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s (or higher) degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum 3 + years of software-development experience, including embedded or mission-critical systems.
  • Secret Clearance with ability to obtain Special Access Program (SAP) Clearance.

Desired Skills

  • Strong C/C++ programming background.
  • Proficiency with GNU build tools (Make, CMake, etc.).
  • Familiarity with AMD/Xilinx FPGA products and design suite (Vitis, Vivado).
  • Linux development experience, including kernel-level or user-space programming.
  • Experience with memory-mapped hardware access.
  • Knowledge of real-time operating systems (e.g., VxWorks, FreeRTOS) and bare-metal development.
  • Understanding of rate-monotonic analysis for scheduling.
  • Experience with common crypto libraries (OpenSSL, WolfSSL, etc.) and best practices for secure coding.
  • Experience with requirements-driven test development aligned with verification and validation processes.
  • Root-cause analysis skills, including fault isolation, debugging, and after-action reporting.
  • Proficiency with Agile tools such as Jira (or equivalents).
  • GitLab (or similar) source-control and CI/CD pipeline management experience.
