Job description

We have officially expanded into the UK, and we are looking to hire engineers to join the team. We’re really lucky to have an Engineering team spread across three jurisdictions working on the Hnry product. While that gives us the opportunity to hire great people globally, we’re looking for a Platform Engineer to join our founding London team. You will play a key role in the team that takes ownership of the infrastructure, performance, and security of the Hnry platform. Our Platform Squad is responsible for keeping our AWS servers and databases running smoothly, and making sure we’re set up to scale with confidence. Collaborate with engineers across the business to support platform needs and improve developer experience Design, build and maintain improvements to the infrastructure and platform of Hnry, currently hosted on AWS Improve the reliability, availability and performance of our platform Evolve and optimise our CI/CD pipelines to enable fast, safe and consistent deployments

Requirements

Implement and enhance observability (monitoring, alerting, logging) using tools like DataDog to ensure high-availability APM Apply best practices in security, scalability and cost optimisation across our infrastructure Support incident response and proactively identify and resolve system issues Produce work that meets the expected level of test coverage and improve test coverage across the existing codebase Share knowledge and contribute to engineering standards and ways of working Jayesh - Principal Engineer Have hands-on experience with AWS infrastructure for web applications (ideally including ECS and RDS) Have experience managing cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (e.g. Terraform) Be confident working with tools such as Git, GitHub, Linux, and CI/CD platforms (e.g. GitHub Actions, CircleCI) Be a team player and want to work as part of a team Be able to take complex problems, break them down, identify root causes and build robust solutions Have a pragmatic approach to improving system reliability, performance and scalability Actively monitor systems, identify problems and propose solutions Bonus points for the following: Experience optimising PostgreSQL databases Experience with Ruby on Rails or supporting Rails-based applications Experience working on systems at scale Experience in a startup, scale-up, or high-growth environment Experience being self-employed (freelancing, contracting etc.) How we work We follow agile practices, delivering improvements iteratively in small chunks. We track the impact of our work and measure ourselves on results, not the amount of code written. We’re growing fast, and are focused on building a well designed, scalable & robust platform. In some areas of the work (e.g. payment processing) there is very little margin for error. our Engineering team release to production multiple times per day. We review each others code, and set aside time for hacking on experimental features, refactoring and/or learning new things. We work hard and finish on time, no crazy hours. Salary banding: £60,000 - £70,000 per annum At Hnry, we operate a policy of pay parity across our organisation to ensure that all Hnry staff are fairly and equally compensated based on their contributions and experience.
