Job description

ATMOS Space Cargo is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer (m/f/d) with strong hands-on experience at the boundary between firmware and electronic hardware. In this role, you will develop the embedded software running on our avionics and define how it interfaces with the hardware it controls, staying involved in the electronics design down to PCB level. Working closely with electrical, mechanical, and systems engineering, you will take ownership from requirements through board bring-up, testing, and documentation.

Key responsabilities

  • You will develop embedded software and firmware for microcontroller-based systems, from requirements through testing and release.
  • You will define, document, and implement the interfaces between embedded software and electronic hardware, including sensors, actuators, and communication buses such as CAN, SPI, I2C, and UART.
  • You will write and maintain low-level drivers, board support packages, and bootloaders for custom hardware.
  • You will bring up new boards and debug hardware and software together in the lab using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and debuggers.
  • You will plan and run unit, integration, and hardware-in-the-loop tests, and maintain the corresponding technical documentation., Our team is multinational and diverse, with offices in Lichtenau and Strasbourg. We work in a collegial, hands-on culture where people support each other, take ownership, and keep learning every day. Motivation for the mission comes first - building spacecraft is not a nine-to-five pursuit. We align the mission, the team, and the individual in mutual dependence. This principle shapes our work environment where exceptional people, as committed as they are competent, can grow and contribute to a mission that matters.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of professional experience developing embedded software for custom electronic hardware.
  • Strong programming skills in C and C++ on resource-constrained microcontroller platforms.
  • Ability to read and review schematics and to reason about analog and digital circuits.
  • Experience with board bring-up and hardware debugging using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG or SWD debuggers.
  • Very good written and spoken English; German is a strong plus., * Experience in space, aerospace, defense, or other high-reliability systems.
  • Experience with real-time operating systems and hardware-in-the-loop test setups.
  • Knowledge of EMC-compatible design, grounding, and shielding.
  • Experience with Python for test automation and data analysis.
